Celica Forums General Discussion Engine and Performance You Think This Would Help Any For SRI's?

hey guys I thought of this idea since I now have an aem intake, but have been reading about a lot of hydrolocking that it's making me think twice. I was thinking if you did the mod of making the cai to a sri, could you just leave the bottom section still attached and have the air run up the pipe and hit the filter inside your engine bay? Or do you think it wouldn't help at all for the sri? I know it'll reduce the power output but i'm looking at it more from a safety concern.

I was thinking; isn't that one way of getting cool air to your sri and have a little better power output to your sri?

i was just goign to post that

alot of american car intakes are acutally smart enough to use a system that keeps the filter in the engine bay and gives you cold air. they also make the intake out of a heat insulating plastic not metal that easily transfers heat. when I get around to actually doing it I'm going to wrap my CAI in exhaust heat insulating tape so I can keep my engine heat outta my intake air. the intake systems I've seen have a new tube that leads to the thottle body then a cone filter is housed inside a sealed box that has a tube leading to the side of the fender. the stock air box actually gets it's air from outside of the engine bay, but it's also designed very restrictive mostly because it's designed to muffle the intake noise.

So the undershield is just exposed like that? damn if i were driving too fast i could possibly suck up a squirrel without that thing covered

Looks like an interesting mod, once i get my SRI ill prolly try to do a thick rubber hose version of it and plain filter grills

i read that article but didn't like how it looks. I figured since the cai placement is in the same place and I have a cai, I might as well use that trick.

the thing about the CAI being there is the inconvenience of cleaning it, ya know removing the undershield and whatnot. with the SRI its just pop open the hood, detaching and cleaning. IMO
