Hey guys, i have a Celica GTS, 2000 and i was wondering. Keep in mind i have no money 2 afford something like this now, but im hoping later down the road i can. I was just wondering the difference in Superchargers and Turbos. Which would perform better and what not, which might b easier 2 install, which might be easier on the car, and finally price ranges. I've also heard that there's a difference, a supercharger kicks right off the bat, but doesnt have as much power, and a turbo has the lag of course, but can get more power in the long run. I think i might try 2 go 4 the supercharger since i like that quick accerleration and i dont really care 2 race anyone that much, just beat someone out if they decide that they can blow me away in their Ford GT mustange or something, lol. you're very limited to s/c's and motor shops now a days are sellin custom turbo kits like hot cakes...s/c is easier on the motor since it puts out less power but very expensive to bring home and to install..turbo is a little cheaper..harder on the motor but puts out more power...there's a lot of ways to reduce lag on a turbo engine though..pipe/turbocharger size and position...if you ask me, i say go for NA since your engine can safely hit 8K rpm.

yeah turbos don't really have a lot of lag especially the small one you'll be using on a celica. you should get some boost as soon as you are reving the engine and most full boost by 3-4k.. with a supercharger you get less boost starting out too, because it's attached to a pully, but by adjusting the pully size you can adjust how much and how soon it comes on. turbos are better and cheaper, superchargers have alittle less piping and might be easier to install, but since the only supercharger you can use is the blitz or if you have a gt trd the options are severly limited.

I agree, small engine like a Celi, turbos are superior. Also the superchargers available are no hell.
On a big engine, a belt driven supercharger is the cheapest & easiest way to get a ton of horse power. Turbos can be equally as good, but way more money.

Thanks, yeah i kinda thought about that, and i've search superchargers and turbo's on forums but it only gave me crazy mods like putting a V-6 in a car that def. was not made for that kind of power...i can only see something worth a real engine swap, (unless it's some sort of small Japanese engine that gets crazy power from god knows where), with a big car engine like the old gas gusslers that my uncle drives. Which i love those cars to death but i dont have the time to learn how to break down my engine and rebuild it, nor the money. I'd just like to take my little pocket rocket and give it alittle bit more kick, just enough to have fun with, without bustin my income or my engine. So to tell the truth i'm not sure i might even get a turbo or supercharger at this point, i might just end up saving it for when i get a GTO or old Mustang Mach 1, or my dream car Dodge Viper, lol(that'll be the day) thanks for the info., and if you feel like just shooting the shit, or teachin some little tid-bids to a newb, hit me up

V6's turbo nicely. My first ride in a turbo'd car was a friend's '87 Grand National 3.8L V6. God damn that thing is fast! Nothing like going sideways down a highway at 70MPH waiting to get traction. At the local drags, I've seen some blown 454's get blown right off the road by stock Grand Nationals.

Yeah but the old 454's dont have the technology that the Grand Nationals do, you have to take that into effect. Plus, if you took my car and just stripped it down 2 wear it weighed nothing, you could beat the shit out of a 454, it's like a freakin tank on wheels, but that's what i like about the old Muscle cars...they really are muscle, lol. I know a guy named Carl that has an old MR2 with a really nice aftermarket turbo and a couple of other things on it, and beat the shit out of a Corvette. And i know he didnt have the hp that that Corvette did. It just all depends on weight and power, not just power
