It finally got warm enough last weekend here in Canada to do a major spring clean on my 2003 GTS that I picked up last November. When I got around to the back bumper, I noticed that some idiot had used a power tool to 'polish it up', and instead screwed the surface up badly. It looks like the marks I made on wood as a kid trying to control those disk sanders that you chuck in a drill! Unbelievable - I did less damage to the finish on my old '95 Escort when I resorted to using wet-dry sandpaper to get sun-baked tree sap off the roof eek!

I was going out tomorrow anyway to buy some top-quality exterior cleaning/waxing goodies, what would work best on the black bumper? I live in a small town with a WalMart and a Canadian Tire store - none of your fancy auto shops here... cry

find you some heavy rubbing compound and rub the shit out of it, then use Meguire's ScratchX (its real fine grade and gets rid of all the swirl marks left over). You shouldn't have any problem getting either one at Wal-Mart

Thanks for the help, X_Factor - I'll look for ScratchX tomorrow. If there's none here then a friend of mine will be able to help me find it - he's got a Mazda RX-8 that gets nothing but the best treatment! Now that I'm riding on new Kuhmo Ecsta 712's (very nice tire) he wants to take me on in Solo II events - he's still pissed that I beat him twice this winter when he invited me to his off-season autocross events rofl.

I didn't see these marks when I bought it, although I did spot the small dent behind the passenger door thumbsdown and the completely bald winter tires. I found it at a repo lot last November, when everything was covered in snow and ice. They don't let you take the cars off the lot for a test drive, but they did let me start it and check out the major components. I put a bid on it and ended up getting the car for almost $10,000 less than the going rate around here for a loaded GTS (assuming you can find one!). I figured WTF, its still got 1/2 of its factory warranty left, how bad could the previous owner have screwed it up in the short time he owned it?. I figure he babied it for a while, then found he couldn't make the payments and just drove the cr*p out of it (bald winter tires!) until they came to take it away. For that much off the price I wouldn't bitch if the clutch was cooked puke! The BlackMobile has a good home now - there's a big Toyota dealership here and they gave it a clean bill of health, fixed some little stuff up for free (loose weatherstriping on the roof, broken passenger door light switch). Now it's time to deal with the cosmetic stuff.

grin LIFT RULES!!!

Some people think the rear bumper is a spot to rest the groceries or luggage while loading them in the trunk.
