Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior I have problem after I install the blue gauge colors

I install the blue gauge colors by myself, and i seems have some problems, first, when i drive on high way, seems like the speed is less than other care, my gauge showed 65 mph, but seems like 55 mph for other car, i called my friends who were in front of me and driving the same speed, he said he was driving 55 mph, so my Gauge is 10 mph less than other cars... who can help me with this problem?? Or does any of you have the same problem, plz let me know, thank!!

Sounds like you need to recalibrate. Did you take your needles off to install the gauges?

yes i did, i have to right?? and also i paint my needles blue, what should i do if i want them to work right??

This is why I havn't done this mod yet. I've been too afraid to mess something up. Well, um, Either grow the balls again to tackle it, or take it to a shop/dealership where they'll rape you and your wallet to fix it.

It's pretty easy to fix. Just don't put the plasti cover on your gauge cluster then have your friend cruise at a certain MPH then manually move the needdle to that MPH. And no you don't have to take the needles off in order to put the gauges on, however, you do if you want to paint them

I kinda have the same problem too, except that when I put mine back on, the rpm needle doesnt even move (the speedometer works fine).. the needle is stuck on 2! I havent gotten to fix it yet, i'm kinda scared to play around with it again.. how do you take the needles out n.e ways? can some one help me please...?

Just be sure the gauges are pushed down all the way (you may even need to use some sort of tape). And to take the needles off get 2 spoons and put the ends under the needle opposite eachother then carefully pull up

where can i get the recalibrate?? do you guys know what is the price for it??

dude i dont think there is any methods to fix it really, i've been to the dealers and NOPE nothing... but one idea from above does seem like it would work... i've been wanting to do this method my self but never found a budd with a gt manual celica...

just find a friend with an auto/manual celi with the same model, GT/GTS and crus side by side with ur needles slightly on where you can easily move it and try ur best to match it up with ur friend... *only way i can think of to recalibrate it, because mines is also showing the wrong speed. going at 55 and it says 65... but yeah good luck if you find any other way, let me know :whatever:

Not a good idea to remove the pins, I just slid my gadges under the pins, worked fine.

Where did you get the stuff to change the colors of your gauge to blue!! I LOVE IT!

just have someone pace you and put it in on that speed( i still need to do that heh) And there IS a way to paint the needles without taking them off.

well if he have something like rj autos and want to change the color he has to remove the stock ones and that requires you to take off the needles.

use satoshi;smethod...i used it mine iswithin 4 mph now...thats good enough for me...dont tryin moving it manually while driving...god forbid ubreak those delicate needles...they cost a pretty penny

Well since my avic-n1 supports digital readout of the speed, I just looked at the digital speedometer and put the needle on while I was slowly driving the car around 20mph. Mine's like 2mph off still but that's close enough for me. Yeah..those needles are a bitch, good luck.

i had the same problem but i just keepd messing with it, wile the car was on, i know i mite be 3 to 4mph off but thats wat ur going to get no matter wat if you remove them, oh well no big deal

NEEDLE CALIBRATION:

Put back to two connectors from behind the gauges.

With the gauge hanging, turn on the ignition to the ACC position. Wait for 20 seconds and the gauge cluster should calibrate itself.

Speedo and tach setting now is calibrated to be at zero.

Replace the needle, making sure it points to zero. Gently push the needle back on. Note: do not handle the needle by the arm. Hold it at the black plastic center while doing this.

Turn off the ignition. Wait 3 minutes and turn it back to ACC position.

Needle should move as the gauge calibrate itself and then fall back to zero.

If needle does not fall back to zero, carefully remove the needle and repeat this procedure again until needle show zero after calibration.

^^ Didn't work so well for me. Seems like the large amount of force it take to pop those needles off permanently screws the speedo mechanism itself.

I hate my indiglo's now, they just annoy me, I want reverse glo
