Last week i checked my oil and i had barly any left. so i filled it up and asked my dad what was wrong. He said that i was beating on it to much (by racing) and that was how the oil was burning. so i filled it back up and in 1 week (500 miles) i burnt half a quart. and i have not raced it at all. which would really stink cause he said it would be expensive. anyone have any suggestions or have had similar problem? thanks for any information (and also my car is outa warrenty )

Is it leakin out the oil pan or the valve covers? If its bliwin blue smoke then yes yer burnin it.

I have the same problem. Your piston rings might be gone from the abuse. On your next oil change, use a thicker oil (10W40 or 20W50 and some "honey" (really thick oil additive) and see if that helps. I'm using it right now and so far its working well (no more black smoke). I use to put in a quart every 500 miles, but with the thicker oil solution, it isn't burning as much.

Since the Celica uses 5W30, the thin oil might have been leaking through and burning with your fuel. Give it a try.

I got a quote to replace the pistons and piston rings and it came out to be $2100 for parts and labor. I learned my lesson from racing

That's what I use. Expensive as shit, but it's really good.

You havn't noticed any oil on the floor of where you park your car, have you? If so, then your problem could be fixed fairly easily.

this may be a stupid question but how hard is it to fix the piston rings and also i don't have black smoke, so could that mean that it is just starting to go. I heard the parts where not expensive that is was just the labor that they kill ya on

You have to take apart the engine to get to the pistons. Leave it to a mechanic. Way to difficult.

hmm i got my new clutch innstaled to day shit i was spinnig form the shop then i chucked it haha teh mechanick laughed of me ...
but then i took it for a test spinn and when i stoped it was some blue smoke coming out of the exhaust still
and my fried worked out side a house in the road i drived and when i stopped he sad it was a loooott of blue smok coming out .
cudd the mechanick have fucked it up when they innstaled the clutch , i dont fhink it was like taht when i turned the car in to the shop.


now im really scared the clutch costed a lot if somfhing new is brooken i really have a problem

If it's black or blue smoke, then you're burning oil. Replacing the pistons is a lot of work. Unless you have a shop or knowledge on how to rebuild an engine, leave it to a pro.

I drive may car pretty hard, I have never had to add oil in between oil changes. The amount on the dipstick has, actually, never even moved. (I use royal purple, and I get it cahnged every 7k miles)

I don't have blue or black smoke so could that mean that it is leaking somewhere? and could posibly be cheaper to fix?

check around your oil filter and see if its leaking.

And you only change every 7k?

I'd knock it down to around 3k.

^^^Not with Royal Purple, it's a synthetic oil.

So is Mobil 1, and any other good oil that you may want to put in your engine. The cheap shit (non-synthetic) should be used in mini-vans.

But still, if you push your car a lot, you should change it sooner to expand the life of your engine.

I change mine every 3k, and it's pitch black, and kinda thick.

synthetic oil gets just as dirty as regular oil. change your freakin' oil every 3,000.

so synthetic oil is better for racing? i know it idles ur car smoother, but didnt know its better for racing.
how much does a box of synthetic oil cost now? and how is this semi-synthetic oil?

My Celi also consumes some oil. 1 Liter per 3,000miles. Should be no problem. Drive calm with a cold engine. That's the only thing to avoid it. The first person who drove my car didn't treat it very well I guess. So now I have to check my oil more regurarly.

checked oil today and it was empty it has taken 2.5lt to fill it up is this normal

David, have you check your spark plugs -- what do they look like?

Black smoke is rich fuel. Gray or blue gray smoke is burning oil. White smoke is water vapor.
2000 to 2002 Celicas had too high a red line. People that redlined them had engine troubles. In 2003 Toyota throttled the engines back and the engine problems went away.
If anyone is going to run their oil longer because it is synthetic, the synthetic does last longer before it breaks down but the oil still gets dirty. I recommend they at least change the oil filter every 3K miles to keep some of the grit and trash particles that can damage your engine, out of the engine oil.

I wasn't aware that is was even possible to just change the oil filter without also changing the oil, since the oil filter fills itself with the current oil from your engine.

Unless you mean; drain the oil, change the filter, then pour that old oil you just drained from your engine back in to your engine via the top oil cap.

I would not recommend doing that.

If you cannot spare $20-$35 for 4qts of new oil, how can you spare the cost of a tank of gasoline after driving around for a few days? Maybe shouldn't drive?
