Celica Forums General Discussion Interior Stock Stereo Not Working

Hey guys, I just purchased a GTS from my brother a month ago and then took it with me to college. I have basic tools. A socket and wrench set with the extenders and such, wire testers, crimper/stripper combo, etc. I've got an aftemarket stereo that I have ordered because I planned to replace the stock stereo eventually anyways. Since it hasn't been working since I've had the car, the moment to order a new stereo came sooner than I thought it would.

I've got one question though. I've checked and replaced the fuse in the kicker panel to verify the stereo is at fault. It didn't turn on again. However, it does make a noise when I hit the 'Eject CD' button on the unit as if it would eject a CD if it had one inside it. My question is this: would the aftermarket stereo still work just fine once I hook it up or is there an underlying electrical issue I haven't looked into? Until I tried the 'Eject CD' button, I figured it was just the unit but now that I know the unit has power running to it, I'm left wondering if perhaps there's another fuse I may need to check or anything of that nature. Any ideas or am I worrying over nothing?

Update for future reference:

The head unit was definitely the issue. Although it didn't turn on, the 'Eject CD' button was still working. Once I replaced it with a new head unit, the new unit worked perfectly in every way. I'm now going to be delving into fixing/replacing my front speakers as one of them has a huge tear on the cone that I didn't know about thanks to not having audio in the car and it has been rattling with any amount of bass, even with the bass frequencies at -12dB on my equalizer. I suspect it may be blown as well as having this tear because the rattling is so bad. If anyone sees this and can provide some advice, please do. (i.e. do I need tweeters as well as 6.5" speakers to replace just the 6.5", please let me know. from what I understand, new speakers usually come in pairs so I'm likely going to replace both front speakers over the next few months)

when you replace your door speekers, get two pieces of wire ( doesnt matter what guage) about 1' per speaker, I.e. 4 1' sections. wire those to the new speaker and just splice the other ends of the wires to the original wires leading to the old speakers. do it that way and the tweeters should still be fine. wouldnt hurt to get new tweeter down the road. or you could even get a pair that has tweeters on the cone guard. happy splicing.
