I recently purchased a 2000 GT-S, shortly after I got my first CEL. Just had this checked out and the mechanic said the scanner states it is running lean. He said I need to get fuel injector cleaner to clean the dirty fuel injectors and this should solve the problem. Said there isn't anything else wrong or much else they could suggest to do. The only problem I have had with the vehicle so far is that it occasionally bogs down around 6000-6500 RPM (I have read that this is a somewhat common problem with the '00 and could be linked to the check engine light or fuel issues). My/their guess is that the previous owner was using 87 octane gas. Is there anyone else with this problem or with suggestions?
Could the O2 sensor be throwing up the CEL? I've heard that's also a common problem with the Celicas, however this is my first one and am by no means a mechanic.
I have also read that when there is a CEL on the dash the engine will not rev to its full potential. Again, don't know how true this is.
If the CEL pops again should I consider getting new fuel injectors or cleaning them by other means? The Celica is essentially stock right now.
