Planning to buy a 01 GT to back up/replace my 01 gts. Has anyone gone from GT to gts that could let me know what to expect? how will it handle in the curves vs gts?

Could I rebuild the gts engine and use it in the automatic GT?

My gts has 275k on it the 2nd and 4th gear synchros were shot when I bought it third is cranky when cold. The engine needs a new head. The body is beat to S***.
I love the gts but tired of the high price for parts and gas.

How hard would it be to go to disc brakes on the GT?

My friend is the original owner of the GT and it does not have any ghetto mods.

GT has 165k on it. Should I be concerned about oil consumption? Gts does not use any oil.

Thanks for any insight

I am pretty late in responding, but I am also a New Member,

I recently acquired a 2000 Celica GT. The previous own was a cousin of my wife's and had blown the engine in it.
I did an engine swap. The Celica runs amazing.

I haven't noticed any oil burning in my swapped engine besides when oil leaked everywhere because of a dried
out Valve cover gasket, however Celica from 99-01 and quite possibly some of the earlier 02's have a problem
with the oil burning. It has something to do with piston rings being improper or wearing out faster. I would keep
a jug of oil with you in case, but I would suggest that to any car owner.

I imagine it wouldn't be too hard but a little tough to switch to disk brakes from the Drums. I haven't done it yet but it
is a future plan of mine to do as disk brakes are better in my opinion. It would just take quite some time and money.

My 00 Celica has 17in rims on it beside 1 tire which is the original 15in rim and even then the car turns beautifully,
handling curves with ease.

What to expect is well some of the obvious things, the Transmission is 5spd instead of a 6spd. You won't have lift
if you like drive fast. Gas for me with about $2 USD per gallon is about $35 USD to fill up but I don't have to fill up
very often, unless I am pushing it. Mostly aesthetic appearances could differ.

If you plan to rebuild the GTS engine if you can, things to note are that the ECU, Air intake,
wire harness, and maybe some other things I can't remember currently, need to be for the GTS other wise it won't
work properly in the GT body. I learned that the hard way when I purchased a used 2zz-GE engine for my Celica
and ended up returning it for the GT 1zz-FE engine.
