Celica Forums General Discussion Interior Low Fuel Warning Light

Does anyone know if the low fuel warning light and the regular gas gauge, in a 2000 Celica GT, run off the same sensor? Or, are they run on separate sensors? I have gotten a lot of opinions, but no concrete answers. I guess I should just call the dealership and talk to a mechanic. On same subject: anyone know what specific fuse the low fuel warning function is operated with? I am asking these questions because My Low Fuel Warning light is always on, but the regular gauge works fine. Also, there are no other current issues associated with it. However, this light did go on about a month ago, about the same time as my Check Engine light. That issue was Idle Air Control Valve, which has been fixed for over a week now{engine light off}. Do not know if there was some connection there, or not? Tend to think it is a short in the particular wire leading to the warning light in the dash. I just like to understand things completely, and this is driving me nuts. I am also guessing there is no way to reset this low fuel light. I tried a couple of things, but no dice. I unhooked battery, but only for a few seconds. I just read something about at least 15 minutes, but that was for a Check Engine light? Can't see why this time would make a difference? Any factual answers would be greatly appreciated.

when ever there is a issue with a gas gauge i always recommend removing the fuel pump and moving the float back and forth a few times and reinstalling. over time gunk can build up and doing this often breaks it apart and fixes the issue. i know it sounds stupid but it sometimes works with older cars

MrEdd Your suggestion doesn't sound stupid, however my gas gauge itself works fine. If the float were gunked up, I would think this would be malfunctioning as well. I've been trying to find the wiring schematics, so I can trace wire along its path from warning light to wherever? I seem to have located every other wire and fuse in the vehicle, but the one I need. I know there is at least one sensor located in, or with, the sending unit. I think the gauge and warning light are both operated by this one sensor, but I cannot be 100% sure. From what I've read too, this sending unit is located on top of the gas tank, and can be seen if I were to pull up the back seat. I really don't want to go down that rabbit hole until I know for certain what problem is. If both gauge and warning light run off same sensor, and gauge works fine, it would seem to be a short in wire leading to warning light. Just trying to pinpoint wire, and also reading about how to test it, which seems easier than I thought. Do not want to call dealership because I know song and dance: you've got to bring it in first. It is hard to say what it is. Anyway,thank you for your suggestion though.
