i'm not saying its rod knock, but if i were you i'd get AAA and start putting money aside for a new engine

Does the knocking noise intensify as the RPMS increase? Are you low on oil?

Yes, it is tied with rpm. And the oil is topped off full, but it has run low a couple of times in the past.

As MrEdd said, I won't say for sure, but being that it is tied with RPM, that is a classic characteristic of rod knock.
