Celica Forums General Discussion General 2 step/launch control?

Just wondering if there is any way to get 2 step. I read somewhere that power fc doesnt do this. Whenever I look up 2 step or launch control, posts show up that are severely irrelevant to 2 step/launch control. It's not really needed but I wanted to see if it's possible just for shits and giggles. Thanks

Also another irrelevant question.. what's up with this oil pump issue? Some people say its gonna happen no matter what, and others say it happens during very specific events(IE when low on oil, taking a hard right turn in lift all at the same time). So which is the truth? I dont want to replace the oil pump if I dont NEED it. The engine has around 55k miles on it and I dont track it.

1. 2 step/launch control should be achievable with a different ECU or with someone who can tune an ECU properly. It is true that the stock ECU won't retain a flash tune for more than a few weeks. However, I have heard of people physically altering their ECU's internals to act a certain way. Neither way will be cheap. The aftermarket on this car just is not cheap.

2. I wouldn't worry about the oil pump thing. You're only at 55k miles and you don't track the car. I haven't heard of that particular event causing failure before, but I guess it's theoretically possible. The most common cause of oil pump failure is over revving when down shifting. (ie 5th to 2nd) However, if you're a conscious driver who isn't trying to be a race car driver beyond their limits, that should not happen. Moral of the story is don't worry about it. My GTS is over 200k miles and I hit lift almost daily. Basic maintenance is the key.

Okay thanks for the info! The thing with the oil pump that I read about is that it has to do with the oil pan. If taking a high G right turn, the oil will be pulled away from the oil pickup causing the oil pump to "surge" destroying the oil pump gear, but I should be fine, like I said, I dont track haha (yet anyways). I was thinking about eventually getting the baffled oil pan which I believe is made by TRD.

And yeah, like I said, I suppose that is theoretically possible but probably not something you have to worry about too much.
