Lemme say something... I’m extremely impressed with my Celica GTS. It’s very capable. Doing inexpensive mods here and there improving your hp helps but sometimes you’re tight on cash. So removing your rear passenger seats, rear plastics, carpets, and subwoofer (unless you just can’t live without your bass like me.) CAI would be a good way to get some extra hp. Removing your cruise and AC (ALL OF IT) and replacing front seats with lighter racing seats. All these little weight reduction will give your car that extra acceleration the other cars have over you. Have fun

But I WILL say...
If you have the extra cash to blow. Lower your engine’s compression (the 2ZZ is kinda high IMO) with some minor engine modifications, adding a nice turbo kit and then completing it with a nice exhaust. The turbo can run about $6,000 for needed clutch replacement (stock clutch will def fall apart) being able to tune it, stock ECU won’t work and I’ve heard piggyback-ECU’s don’t work with Gen-7s. Etc

No it will not compete and racing that 2ZZ-GE engine you WILL blow the motor period there was a mistake in the design at high rpm the oil pump sucks all the oil out of the pan then when you curve or for no reason at all it doesn't have oil left to pickup and it picks up air and blows the engine up. There are 2zz enthusiasts that have corrected the issue with aftermarket oil pans and it's not a difficult thing to change.

The short answer is No you cannot compete that car handles like a dream but you're looking at a complete overhaul of the car from front to back and all those people telling you to do a cold air intake (what's not cold about the air it's already intaking?) And the exhaust and all manner of extra stuff the computer would need to be replaced and retuned by a professional tuner on a Dyno to get the car to run correctly after all those mods because that stock computer was designed by Yamaha/Toyota to run That engine according to the data using The Stock Setup you start changing intakes and other stuff the computer won't know what it's doing with all the changed variables and MUST be TUNED (reprogrammed basically) to function correctly.

Don't listen to a bunch of people who don't know anything about the 1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE engine families telling you what to do for "more power" they don't know what they're talking about these are very finecky engines and they're simply outclassed unless you're a professional engineer with an elaborate shop with some machining equipment you will never get the 2ZZ to be competitive with most other cars on the street.

I drive a 1ZZ-FE and it's fantastic.. Toyota design.. will go for millions of miles.. beast fuel economy.. no faulty oil pump design.. best girl.

The Celica can Outlast your children if you drive her gently and keep the oil changed but that car.. sadly.. only 'looks fast'. I'm not dissing on it I love the 7th gen Celica.. it's just never going to be a race car it just isn't.
