So I got this 96 GT 2.2l from a friend, you know like I needed a hole in the head, and he's dumped a lot of time and parts into it and he can't seem to get it lined out.
I fee like it's something he's overlooked, but maybe not. The main issue is when you start the car cold it runs fine. It's a little rough on the idle but that's probably because of the check engine light.
The only stored code is P0340. The camshaft position sensor. To my understanding it's actually located in the distributor. He's replaced that already. Not just the cap but the entire distributor. He also replaced the fuel pump. Rebuilt the engine out of the car. Installed a new alternator.
So that's issue #1. Issue #2 was after I got it home yesterday, pulled the battery for a full charge, and it seems when I switch the ignition to on the fans turn on immediately. I would say that's normally a temp sensor. Well as it would be he replaced the coolant temp sensor as well. Not because the fans were coming on but maybe because if it wasn't reading the right temp of the engine preventing it from restarting once it got up to operating temp.
I think it's also worth mentioning that my 10 minute drive from his house to mine the temp guage on the cluster never got above 1/4. Normally they should be close to half I would think. I'm going to hookup my OBDII scanner and look at the data stream once it's been running and up to temp to see what that reads.
I'm open to all comments and questions and any feedback that you might be able to provide. This isn't my daily driver and for the $500 I scooped it up for it's worth some of my time and energy. Plus we all need a hobby right?
