Celica Forums General Discussion General Does anyone have a idea whats making this noise???

Idk if it has any correlational but im also having issues with my rpms dropping to about 200 and jumping back to 1200 after driving for a while and taking the car out of gear when coming to a stop like its about to stall out. could use some ideas tho because its real annoying to listen to every day.

Where does the noise come from?

Does it change pitch when you rev the engine?

Possible the serpentine belt is rubbing on something? Or one of the pulleys is stuck?

It sounds like its coming out of the gas tank. I hear it right by the gas cap. I thought it might have been the fuel pump so i replaced it but its still doing it. But no it dont change pitch sometimes its louder but always sounds the same. Also real random when it dose it I took it to 2 different shops and it wont make the noise for them and even tho i showed them the sound with the video they say they cant find it unless its making the noise while its there. but to me it almost sounds like a hose gets clogged or something. sounds like its struggling to get air.

This sounds like what you'll typically hear when something is wrong with the EVAP system. It's likely that air is being sucked in past the Gas Cap by excessive negative pressure inside the fuel tank. This likely means the EVAP system is not venting properly, and that pressure builds up inside the fuel tank until air is sucked in as a result. You should check your entire EVAP system to make sure all the lines are in good condition and connected properly. Then make sure your Vapor Canister, VSV Solenoids, and even Gasp Cap are also in working order.

Old post but did you ever solve the problem Tyerr5? I have the EXACT same issue took a video to post but found this. I will do what actionSeeker says but wanted to know if you had any success. If so what was it.
