Hey all,
Is it okay to use semi-synthetic oil for my older toyota celica 2001 (2zz-ge)? It has about 170,000 miles and I usually drive in a hotter environment, so I am using a thicker oil 10W-30 with API grade. What are the benefits/drawbacks of using semi/full synthetic oil?

Stick with full synthetic 5w-30. They're cheap at Wal-Mart $21 Valvoline. I just changed my oil on my 02 GTS. 394k and clean as new engine. Original lift bolts.

I used combination synthetic and regular oils, no problems after 320K miles.

When engine was leaking oil, I tried 10-40W and 20-50W, did not have problems, did not help leaks either.

Better stick to OEM recommended 5-30 oils just in case of freezing weather. 2ZZ engine is known to self destruct if oil starved.
