Hello all,

I have a 2005 GT. I decided to check my coolant, and lightly pushed down on the coolant reservoir lid while loosening. This light force downward was enough to suddenly result in coolant spilling on the ground under the driver's side of the car. I removed the air filter box to investigate further. Sure enough, the hose that leads from the coolant reservoir to the radiator at the top corner (driver's side) had come off. I then realized that the plastic fitting over which this hose clamps had broken off completely. Wild! I will see if I can include a photo of the plastic fitting broken off inside of the hose. Sure enough, lightly using pliers/flatheads etc. to gently remove the plastic fitting very easily results in a crumbling mess. Aside from my influence, I figure this wasn't far from failure anyway. I'm just glad that this happened in my driveway with the engine off, and not while I was driving. I will be getting a new hose, of course, but with the fitting broken clean off, I suppose I need a new radiator as well? It sucks as the radiator otherwise seems to be in great shape, but I don't see a workaround with this fitting being broken off, and I'm not about to be cheap when it comes to any engine coolant situation. Any thoughts?

That plastic nipple is weak after so many thousands miles. You can try to glue it back with special high temp glue, but it would break again soon. If it breaks when you are driving, it could overheat the engine.

For maximum performance and peace of mind, just install a new radiator.

A new Denso radiator is about $100. You can install it in about 1 hour or so.
