There a handful of problems coming from the transmission in my 01 gts. 6 spd manual.
To start off, the shifter grinds sometimes going into gear, even with the clutch fully in. This issue is becoming worse though. When it’s in 3rd gear and revs past 3k rpm it most of the time snaps back into nuetral by itself. As well as a grinding sound when accelerating and letting off gas.

I’ve already guessed I probably need a new clutch and will flush the transmission fluid too. Was wondering if anybody else has had similar problems.

Yes for all those out there with this problem. I also have a 01 GTS. Hard shifting? Grinding going into 2nd 3rd gear? Worse when cold? Factory service manual say 75w90 GL4 or GL5. Long story short GL5 damages syncros but Toyota dose not sell GL4 anymore that I know of. And Toyota recommends GL5. Stay away from GL5 (unless you want to buy a transmission)!!! I recommend redlineGL4 MT90 (75w90) works well for me but in some cases damage is already done. Would try to swap out transmission oil and see if if smooths out. Worked for me..Hope this helps and all the best!
