Is turbo ing a GT worth it or should I swap the engine for a 2zz or 3gtse or something like that

keep in mind, a 3gtse wont fit in a 7thgen celica engine bay unless you modify the frame.

I’ll let you know here in about 7 months because that’s exactly what I’m doing. Keep in mind, it’s a very expensive process. The 1zz is not designed to handle a lot of power, so the engine internals have to all be upgraded. Piston heads, rods, new studs, turned crank and more. My mechanic has quoted me $3,000 just to upgrade the engine to be able to handle a turbo kit. All in all, estimates range from $7,000 and up in order to turbo the 1zz.

Is it worth it? I think it is. The 1zz motor is known for its reliability and durability. I want that reliability, but it just needs a bit more power for my taste. One important thing I’ve learned from reading posts and interacting with people is that you absolutely will need to find someone who can tune your car properly to handle the boost. And even then there is still risk, as with almost any motor.

Absolutely correct!!! I'm going to turbo my 1zz FE next year. I already have the apexi FC from MWR. From what I understand the 1zz FE can take 220-240hp. I saw a build in Europe where they safely were able to push 243hp on a 1zz FE with stock internals.

Im happy with 180 to 200hp keeping stock internals. I'm going to get my turbo through Monkey Wrench Racing and buy their turbo tune with it. They have done the research and testing more than anyone out there on this engine. As you said and I couldn't have said it any better you don't need 350+hp for a car that weighs 2300lbs. It just seems like too much overkill.

Iv'e just bought a 1ZZ with a Turbokits.com turbo, previous owner spent about £10k doing the whole car up a few years ago...
Although I Have a AEM Fic 6 fuel cotroller which i'm struggloing with a tune, it made 231hp on the dyno last year and does feel pretty quick!
