hey you guys,
has anyone experienced any problems with their 2002 celica transmission? according to my mechanic they came out with an "updated tranny" after i bought my car.
my transmission was making this "rrrrrrrrr" noise when ever i drove it (didn't matter what gear i was in). so i took it to my mechanic and he told me that the transmission had a bad bearing and that i'd have to get my transmission replaced. he said it was gonna cost me about $3000 to replace my new transmission. now tell me that's not f#@ked up. it only has 71000 miles on it. i never had any problems with this car before when the warranty was still valid.
any thoughts?

you should still be under warrenty for that work. I haven't heard of any TSBs for the GT tranny only GTS like lucky said I thought they were the only ones with a new tranny.

the main problem is that the only place that document this change is the parts catalog. so toyota north america said that since there was no recalls or anything on the transmission they couldn't help me. but it's a freakin' toyota! the only cars my family buys are toyotas and i've and a toyota b4 this celica and we've NEVER had a problem with the transmission...

it's 5 year 100,000 miles, and your tranny is covered as per that right there from THEIR website. Tell em to stop fucking around or your calling a lawyer.
When my toyota dealer didn't want to trade in my old GT after I found out that the salesperson misrepresented the vehicle and flat out lied to us. I threatened to get a lawyer and talk to the DA they buckled.

that's really weird. I called my local toyota dealership, they also suck. Apparently they've "never heard of a 100,000 mile powertrain warrenty on ANY toyota. WTF?? That shit's right on their website. I'd say you should bring it to a new dealership or call toyota north amerca. If the bearing was bad that's something that probably should have been picked up on before during scheduled maitnence. If that won't work you could always go to a salvage yard and get a tranny and swap it in at a transmission shop. FUCK TOYOTA

ummm ... new car warranties are 5 yr / 60,000 mile powertrain ... I have no idea where you came up with 100K ... As for their certifid used program ... Each Toyota Certified Used Vehicle comes with a 6-year/100,000-mile Limited Powertrain Warranty (from original date of first use when purchased as new). We also add 6 years/100,000 miles of 24-hour Roadside Assistance.

^ oh purchased new that's not how the shit bag liar manager explained it to me when I had my used GT.
I still think they should have picked up on it during schedueled repair.
I'd say get a new tranny from a salvage yard and have a tranny shop fix it.

Hey btw I also have a 2002 Celica GT 5 speed... and my KM on my car is 62xxx... I brought my car to them when it was 599xx and they said it was the Release bearing the first time.. and after they changed the bearing the rrrrrr noise is still here so i brought it back to them.. and the store manager told me that if they find out the problem occurs due to driver's abuse or misuse of the vehicle the cost of repairing is going to fall on my shoulder... good thing i received a phone call soon after the service (the replacement of release bearing).. about the satisfaction gaurentee thing.. and they asked me if i was satisfied with the service and my answer was negative... and the manager called me back a few days ago.. asked me for a road test with him and i just road-tested with him yesterday ... he told me to bring them the car tomorrow ... I'll update the post when i have some new information... i really wonder if they would charge me a penny on this... if they are gonna charge me anything i think i'm gonna send a few email to toyota.ca and may be get a lawyer or something... BTW i live in Vancouver...

I just bought an 02 GTS Automatic. It ran fine for 2 weeks now it won't shift into 3rd and 4th and pops out of gear and my check engine light came on. I thought it might be a TPS sensor. Anyone had this issue with the automatics?
