Hey! I just had my 2000 Celica GT-S in the shop for a strange noise under the hood, and basically got the worst answer I could've. I don't have very much time left with my current engine. Apparently its my timing belt, and burning oil way quicker than it should (I'll still get a second opinion, but I wanna plan for the worst). Do you guys think it would be better to get a new engine, and swap it out, or just get a new car? I really love this car, and would lean towards new engine if it's feasible, but I want opinions from people who know what they're doing. Thanks!

If you really love the car and want to keep it rolling go for the engine swap. especially if you can do it on your own as shops will be charging you a lot, and if you have a good budget go for a Jdm GTS engine ive read they have 15 more hp than a USDM engine.

wouldn't changing the timing chain and fixing a few seals be cheaper than a new 2zz engine? I would for sure get a second opinion on this.

New engine, but if your gonna put the wrench time in for that, might as well do a build and find a new daily driver since you love the car, 2zz would be ideal since its still an I4 motor, easy to build, good price range considering parts for other cars cost. On top of that having 180 stock horsepower is real easy to build up to race potential which is really what we build cars for lol
