Ok, lets get cracking.

Start off by getting a 10mm socket wrench, then pop that hood(hopfully your engine bay is cleaner than mine).

Then remove the negetive battery cable.

Then locate the ECU box(it's in front of the battery) and remove the two 10mm nuts.

After that is done, push the tabs on the sides outwards and pull up on that side, the cover will pop off. Leaving you with this.

Remove all of the plugs, and pull up on the blue piece on the left to reveal another 10mm nut. Remove this nut.

The stock ecu should now pull right out. Hook up the A'pexi unit, put the ecu cover back on, reconnect the negettive battery cable, and your good to go. The English manual says to let the ecu calibrate, by which it means you should let your celica idle for 10 minutes without the defrost or AC on. Then idle another 10 minutes with just the defrost on, and another 10 minutes with just the AC on.

And with that you should be good to go, any questions/comments?

so what kinda gains do you get with that?

even if you have it preprogrammed for i/e/h combo, my guess is that you'll have to retune it on your own car to get maximum gains... something I'm looking forward to doing myself

where can i find pics of this unit, i cont care if its not in the car, just sitting by itself, anyone have pics or know where i can find some

that installation is easier than a frickin oil change. crazy!
dont know much about it, but how can you retune it? do you have to give it to monkeywrench and they tune it for you or can you do it urself? how? and how hard is it? do you have to tune it everytime you put another mod on ur car?

the pfc was made to be a direct swap.

you will need mwr base maps as a start in order to even drive the car. The gts base maps that come with the pfc from japan wont run a us car (it will start and all but dont drive it)

you can buy the datalogic software and hook it up to your laptop and tune it yourself or take it to a trusted shop and have them use the datalogit software to tune if for you, since theres only 2 authorized apexi tuners in ca.

Exactly, though any other 'celica compatible chip' will get overridden because its just a piggy back.

Use a laptop and Datalogic software/hookup to tune it. Monkeywrench is the only dealer that I know of right now, they also send 'package' tunes, you can tune it yourself but you really have to know what your doing which means knowing ever aspect of your engine. You don't have to tune it everytime you put a new part on, but if you want to see the best gains it's a good idea... what I would do is order a bunch of parts at once and put them all on the same time and then get it tuned, cause it's not cheap to have dyno-tuning done.

theres the profec, that seems to work.

Theres also a split second piggyback that has been working very well on Stafford fabrications Turbo kits.

problem is, not too many places can tune the PFC properly or have any experience with it

Do you know if there is any difference with the Australian Celica 1999 - 2002 compared to the USA GTS and the JDM version?

The Australian version (SX and ZR) only comes with the 2zz engine with either the 6sp manual or 4sp auto.

I have the SX model with 6sp manual. I'm considering using an A'pexi PFC - I can get an unused "new" secondhand unit for around $1200 AU but no controller or cable and apparently no preloaded tune. I would do the ECU first with other mods done later such as supercharger and injectors. However there is practically no places in Australia that do/sell any mods/performance parts for Gen 7 Celicas.
