Celica Forums General Discussion General Tail lights always on

I bought this 1990 Celica GTS used and all my exterior lights stay on when the engine is running except the head lights while the switch is off. Is this normal for this model?
My cluster lights are also on when the engine is running.
I checked my hand break switch is ok.

I had this problem. There is a switch behind the brake pedal that is activated when your foot is not on the brake. When you press the brake it releases the switch which activates the brake lights. After testing the switch it worked just fine. But what I noticed, where the switch touches the actual brake pedal, there was a small plastic pad that pushed into the back of the pedal that was missing. Wasnt actually missing, just dry-rotted and broken and laying on the floor under the pedal. Mine was dark green color and I saw it days before I realized the lights were staying on.

Parts were cheap and an easy fix

I checked the break switch. Nothing wrong with it and my tail lights are still ON no matter what.
