Well I found a shop that would paint my vizage body kit for 150 bucks...catch is that I do the prep work...The body kit is polyurethane...so I need so tips for the prepping...My friend recommends that I use a 600 grit and wetsand, then primer with a primer specially made for plastics, etc...then wet sand and primer a couple more times until smooth...all that sounds about right to me but should I leave a couple coats of primer on the body kit before taking it to the shop or should the primer be sanded down before taking it to the shop?
I just started working at a shop and what we do there is basically the 600 wet sanding and get everything nice and scuffed up so the paint sticks, and on bumpers, we just use the 600 dry to get any nicks out after we wet sand it, and make sure you don't make a indent concentrating on one area too much. After that, make sure you get it cleaned off a bit, with like a damp cloth and a dry one, then you can do the primer, and sand it down once or twice, but the last coat, make sure it covers everything, and i'm not totally sure you have to sand the last coat down, just ask them on that or i can tell you tommorow.
well I already began scuffing the pieces down already with 600 wet sand and primer so just tryin to find out if I should have the final coat of primer sanded or just left there...maybe I should give the shop guys a call...
