Kind of sounds like the lift bolts might be broken. Anybody wanna confirm this?

Does it have this problem even after the car has warmed up all the way?

I don't know what the long term effects of this will be but you have to get it fixed. Even though I hate all dealer work This is one you will have to take to them. I don't know the exact cost but it will be pricey.

is this a fix that a Toyota Dealer has to do, or can someone whos pretty good with rebuilding engines do? I'm just asking because my neighbor rebuilds all sorts of engines, and just in case this happens *knock knock knocK* i wont be out too much money.

I don't know the exact cost but it will be pricey. I thought that the dealership's were supposed to eat the cost of shitty parts...toyota knows that the older 7th gen's had weak lift bolts and so they upgraded in the last couple years...so if you go to them to get ur's replaced...shouldn't it be no charge??

could be signs of the clutch going, that's what i felt, i do a lot of highway driving and it felt powerless in the higher revs, like if i was hitting the throttle in 6th to pass. it was the most frustrating feeling imaginable. finally it was it would rev up in low gear but wouldn't catch and that's when i figured out i needed a new clutch, just a potential diagnosis

Sorry to say this to you but I know for sure your lift bolt(s) are broken. I had the exact same problem. My car would bogg at about 6k rpm and an obvious absence of the high rpm lift power after the bogg. I recomend no matter how much it costs to have the toyota dealer make this repair. I repaired my own and I ran into other complications. The oil guide shaft rotated 90 degrees with the broken bolt(intake side) still inside creating a groove inside the bore making it almost impossible to remove the shaft. Anyways, It took me almost 10 hrs. to fix my vvtl. It works just like it used to but I would highly recomend you have the dealer fix it!!!!
