I'm really close to doing GT to GTS engine swap. I wanna know if thats smart or not. Is it as simple as it sounds if i get the engine + ecu + tranny. Anything that I'm overlooking?

I had been under the impression that this swap was actually extremely difficult AND costly. If it weren't you would obviously see a lot more GTs with the 2ZZ engine. The cost of getting a GTS engine, swapping the tranny, and your ECU would almost definately be more than the cost of a turbo (a custom one at that) Stick with other power parts or trade your car in on a 00' GTS. Good luck!

I know you can't really understand my situation so I'll put it as plainly as possible.
1. The car is under my dad's name and he won't let me trade it in he'd rather just sell it and keep the money since he has been the one making the payments. 2. My GT engine is messed up completely. Estimate of $1500 to fix 3. My dad has a mechanic that works for him and labor is not a problem I have someone on hold who will sell me the engine+ecu+tranny for about 3k. 4. I'm not just trying to reach the 180 HP of the GTS. I will eventually buy a turbo or supercharger

Just beef up the gt engine while you are repairing it. Add the turbo & components while you are rebuilding it. The lower compression gt engine is a little more boost friendly than the gts. Rebuild, boost it, & all is well. 1/2 the added electronics & wiring to scew up.

If you really do plan on going turbo, just stick with the GT engine. If you plan on going NA mods, I'd say with your situation you should go for the GTS swap. Right now there is way more out there for the GT, including the new TRD supercharger that is supposed to be on the streets soon. Or find a way to contact lotus and drop in their version of the Celica engine, if you really want to go all out
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you
