heavy thumbsdown, possible fender rub, bent rims cause there isnt to much tire to take impact if you hit something.

a kid told me that celicas handle like crap... i laughed

You can get 18's that only weigh 18 lbs. It's true that you can dent a rim, but if you buy rims that have a lot of spokes, it's less likely to happen. I hit so many pot holes when I first got 'em that the only damage that I got was scuff marks grin I can get ya pic later if you want me to

its true, you can dent any size rim pretty easily. the reason i got my 18s is cause i bent one of my stock gts rims on a pothole. youre gonna have to be careful no matter what size you get. the major downside is that you lose torque with bigger wheels. it takes more power to rotate a bigger wheel than it does for a smaller one. if youre racing your car, get no bigger than 16s.

The one advantage of 18s is top top end(+100mph).

By having a larger rim, the motor has to work less to spin it at high speeds as opposed to a smaller diameter rim which the motor can turn faster but has to work harder at higher speeds.

You guys shouldn't have to worry about this because hitting triple digits isn't very important. It's fun though.

so wat you guys are saying is that you can dent a rim becoz the tyre profiles are too 'thin' and so when you hit a pothole the tyre cannot absorb all the impact and hence the rim gets dented? Wouldnt that just be on the inside of the rim covered by tyre anyways? and thats gotta be a pretty big/deep pothole...we dont have many of them around here...

If you are doing the +1 or +2 sizing correctly your rolling dia. is the same, isn't it? So how would this have an effect on anything?

the overall size might be the same but the rim is much larger...thus much heavier...slows down acceleration

First of all.. ride quality is much different...
I have the Volks TE-37 with 215/35/18 tire(kind of thin)
It's kind of noisy.. and ride is little rough...
You can kind of feel the road more...

As long as you go with light weight rim, there isn't much different from your stock...
My 18's is pretty much similar to the stock 16 GTS rim...
But I have to dyno it to see the true power difference...

I have 225/40/18
Only problem is the tracks in the road (don't know if you call it "track"), because of the wider tires.
People who drive behind me on those bad roads must think I'm drunk. The car tends to go it's own way sometimes.
