My engine is making a squeaking noise because I need a new belt tensioner and serpentine belt. I don't have the $500 laying around right now to get it fixed. Is this something that I can put off, or is it life threating to my Celica? I can live with the small squeaky noise it is making for now, I just don't want a bigger repair bill because I wait too long. Please explain this to me and give a suggestion. Thanks.

i read a article by the people at edmunds.com and they had a celica for 2 years and wrote all about it and tested it and everything and they said the same thing happened to them. the noise gets worse and worse they drove with it for awhile so i dont THINK it's life threatening.. theirs was covered with warrenty still.

I need a BELT TENSIONER also. Not just a belt, yes, belts are fairly easy to replace, but I am not so sure about the Tensioner. Thanks for the ideas though!

good time to buy an AEM true power pully kit for like 90dollars if you have a big audio system i wouldn't install the aem. otherwise, the tensioner is covered under a tsb belt tension tsb for certain vin#'s. if you're not covered then you can "upgrade" to the goodyear gatorback belt gatorback belt [ goodyearbeltsandhose.com] and replace the tensioner yourself (gotta be an install thread somewhere)

If the belt/ belt tensioner noise is annoying, just spray some belt lube on both. the lube will temporarily quite the bearing on the tensioner pulley until you have the cash to get it fixed. the only concern you should have is that the tensioner pulley COULD seize, and burn up the belt. I suggest getting the replacement tensioner (if your gonna stay with an oe tensioner) from the dealer. I've seen a lot of problems with aftermarket tensioners for all makes of vehicles.
