I can't afford $400 or more for a cat-back system, so how would it sound to just cut off the muffler and buy a ractive muffler or something...good or bad?...loud?

If you're just looking for the "look" and more agressive sound, then purchasing an aftermarket muffler is a great thing to do...you can always get a full exhaust upgrade later. Personally I WANT the TRD Exhaust (has to be the extended one because of my rear bumper) but that's gonna run like $1655...umm ya ok. In the meantime I'm cool to drop like $350 to get a Ractive or whatever muffler myself. Talk to your shop or someone on the site here will know which are louder...I know the apexi N1 is really loud, as with Tanabe, but unless you get right under the car nobody will no different if you buy a nice muffler...good luck

TRD Extened Exhuast is only $500 not $1655.

I currently have a ractive muffler on my car...it looks good and sounds good. But, looking back, i wish i had saved up for a full exhaust like TRD. If I were you I would save my money
In case you didn't notice its good to be a Florida Gator. Noles Suck.

What I did was by a bomz racing muffler and had a shop make me a pipe that would bolt up to where the stock exhaust wenta and welded it to the muffler. Basically it is a custom axle back exhaust and this gave me just as much of a gain as most other axle backs and only cost me 140 all together. I have had a custom mid pipe made yet but the the Celica GTS has a 2 1/4 inch exhaust system allready which isn't bad at all.

What are you talking about? TRD Extened Exhuast is only $500 not $1655. He lives in Canada so that's going to be $800 from the dealership if not more, then install...I think he exagerrated a little... BTW, Stephen I though the Action Package came with the exhaust??

I got my car with the action package and it just comes with the stock exhaust. the action package is just a body kit and wing, nothing else is different from any other celica. I have the TRD kazuma exhaust and it was only $350 full catback. It's extremely mind-blowingly loud but as long as you don't mind ducking from cops every now and again its well worth the money (great gains and it sounds almost like an f1 car in lift, not a pissed off bumblebee). This is where I get all my stuff check it out--> http://www.wctoyotasport.com/TRD/index.htm this place is great to get parts from.
