Build that 2zz engine up and it'd be just fine, throw in a 3zz stroker kit and it'll be great... cheaper than a swap too.
You can always swap in a 3sgte, but it requires a good amount of work and may not be street legal anymore afterwords, depending on the state you live in and the production year of the engine you get.

Okaay...besides the fact that there is a limited selection of engines you could swap why would you? Considering you have a stock engine, you haven't even given the 2zz a chance yet.a 3s-gte engine would give good gains but would be illegal, hardly any ohter engine would fit into such a cramped space. Also remember this is not some honda, you cannot just interchange parts.

Yeah, XS Turbo and drop some weight. You'll have a 13 second car like that. Properly tune that with new internal parts and other things I know very little about, and you'll probably hit 12 second time slips. Add nitrous and I'm sure you will have an insanely fast car, cheaper than totally swapping out the motor and doing the turbo, internals, and nitrous to that new motor.

I don't recommend modding for drag racing although you can do whatever you want. We don't have drag racing cars. Our cars were designed for the turns.

if you are willing to go through a complete swap, then get the 3sgte.but i think good internals and a turbo kit would be easier!engine work/turbo kit and stand alone engine management(in case you want to upgrade to a bigger turbo, more flexabilty with tuning)would be awesome!
HYBRID:resulting from the combination of two or more mechanically dissimilar origins! "...... code":every man is a shadow, let him be treated as such, until proven otherwise by a show of character or code!

Go with an XS Turbo, Quaife LSD, new clutch and lightweight flywheel. Get a nice set of tires on there and then with the money you save get a good coil over setup and overhaul the rest of the suspension. Maybe some new brakes to if you want.
With that setup you can have a fairly fast street car (low 13's probably high 12's with a good driver) and also be a very mean track/autocross car.
