well, here's my 2 cents. The 12w7 rms power is 750, 1000 peak. The 1000/1 is a little on the expensive side especially if you are gonna buy 2 of them. 1 1000/1 isn't gonna be enough when we are talking just about power. what kinda music do you listen to will determine what amp you should get. I know you want JL, but I think a decent alternative would be the Rockford Fosgate 1501 bd. Its 1500 watts, so youll be running the w7's at their RMS perfectly, but if you like it on the loud side, 2 1000/1's will certaintly do the trick.

u need two amps bro...2 1000/1 amps would do the trick...with this subs produing as much watts as they do one amp will not do it ...one amp wont handle the power and wont put out as good...iv talked to stero guys they say that if you dont have a good amp and enough power in the amp to run the subs theres no point in getting a system at all

All energy for you audio system ultimately comes from the alternator. An extra battery only extends your reserve time and helps out when listening to the system with the engine off.
Ohm's Law can help us determine how much current we will need.
Current (Amps) = Power (Watts) / Voltage.
As a side note, if you plan to use Rockford amps, they use a 14.4V input rating (as do many manufacturers). To determine power at 12.5V (what car's electrical systems are), multiply the power by .75. (1000 Watts @ 14.4V = 750 Watts @ 12.5V).
Total up all the power and divide by 12.5. (750 Watts / 12.5V = 60 Amps).
It takes 40 - 60 amps to operate a vehicle so add this to the above number. In this case, for the amp to actually produce 750 Watts, our alternator will need to be in the 100 - 120 amp range.
Amplifiers cannot produce more average energy than the electrical system can produce.
The 1000/1 would do a fine job with two 12W7's if your charging system can handle the 80 amps of current required. The 500/1 is a very popular amplifier because most stock charging systems can produce the current needed.

JL Audio doesn't spec a "peak" power handling. If there was, the peak spec would be 1500 "peak" amplifier Watts.
As posted earlier many manufacturers rate power @ 14.4 Volts. Multiply this number by .75 to get a true 12.5 Volt spec. (1500 * .75 = 1125 Watts).
Because the 1000/1 is regulated, it will still be a 1000 Wat amp even when the input voltage drops.
