Since the (Eval New Orleans Celica Head Lights) are so expensive why don't we make a list of ppl that really want them bad, (Me!!!). We put enough money together and order one pair. When they are're shipped, me or some one else finds some one that knows how to work with computers good, like graphic designing or somethin, and mesaure them and make the exect coy so we can make the covers just like the guy In the picture below then make them ourselves, It would be much cheaper, I know this may sound ILLEGAL but those celica head lights are so hoot/tight I want them bad, but I don't wanna get ripped for a pair of headlights, you know $2000 Damn!!! When It could be $200 or less. I know guys this sounds CRAZY But It may also work out perfect, I'm not forcing/Brain-Washin any one this was only my Idea/Opinion,

Thanks For Your Time And Reading It.

hmmm, I think finding a way to redesign this lights by yourself will be a little hard. I think will end up costing around the same as the real price maybe even more. wave

Yeah, tryin' to rip the dude off would be wrong, I'm sayin' why don't we try and work out a deal that he'll lower the price if we can get a group buy of like 10+ people, and they'd be like 1200 a piece or something like that you know?

Umm ...I may be wrong on this, but aren't these replica M sport headlights? What's wrong with trying to make a better product for a better price? That's what Tater did and nobody complained. that's what the world does in general. If not, our 7th gen Celica's would all look like the 1976 Celica pimped out (scary thought)

Just food for thought, take it how you will. thumbsup

i think in the end...after all the work and money you put in to copying his headlights you'll spend more than the 2K for a prototype.

I have a better idea... why not compose your list, but then, instead of trying to screw tater, why not gather the money into a group buy. Maybe if he was selling say 20 pairs, then he could cut a break in the price, because he'd be able to temporarily hire someone to help him with the incredibly complicated construction of his amazing products!

And yes, it is illegal to do a direct copy of his work, and the consequence is a huge fine and possibly jail time for EVERYONE involved with the process of making and selling the copies.

Eh, I'm not gonna nit pick about legalities (cause technically it wouldn't be illegal to copy them), but I'd rather find another way to to it. I was just wondering how much those were. $2000 is insane though. He definitely needs to bring the price down because they can't be that entricate. It's a damn headlight afterall. He's working with fiberglass, not titanium. My .02 cents.

Wouldn't it be copyright infringement? And as for the complication of the construction... have you ever taken the time to really think through the porcess of building a fiberglass headlight housing that 1. must perfectly fit the car, and bolt into the same holes as the original; and 2. be shaped properly to fit the back-spacing of the headlights; and 3. properly aim the bulbs; 4. be completely water-proof at every seal; and 5. be strong enough to stand up to the rigors of bouncing over shitty roads; 6. and finally, have a smooth enough surface to provide a good finish once painted.

Trust me, working with fiberglass is no picnic. I have done enough of it myself, as I am in the process of developing my own bodykit, spoiler, and a custom speaker box to fill the area of my removed backseat. I think that for all of the work, planning, and fabrication that Tater is doing with each set of headlights that he builds, and the desire to make a little money (and i doubt his profit margin is very high, if you deduct the time that he spends on each set), $2000 is not too incredibly high. Take some time, and price out a set of stock headlights at the dealer. I will call my dealer, and get the price, and I'll post it in a few minutes.

OK... the cost of the headlights from my dealer is $500 for the pair. That is for a mass-produced injected plastic part, not a custom hand made fiberglass component.

I don't know whether or not he has actually copyrighted them, but all you'd have to do to get around that is change the pattern of the bulbs. It's the same thing that other companies do to rip off name brand bodykits. Change the design just a smidgen so that they can't get sued. And to be honest, no, I don't think it would be too terribly hard to replicate a set if you were to buy a pair from him.

Ok, I guess its time for me to chime in.

First off, it is refreshing to see so many folks here that are morally and ethically grounded.
Thanks for trying to show those who would steal someones artwork the error of their indefensible ways. Im not going to even try to and convince those that imply that buying someones product and pulling a mold off of it with the intent of producing counterfeit copies is illegal. I would suggest that they contact a patent and copyright attorney and get an explanation of design and utility patents. If you want to create a faithful likeness by sculpting your own artwork then get sculpting.

For the people (thats you, Feston -AKA A_Beautiful_Mind1) that would put so much thought and energy in to procuring artwork to counterfeit, why not spend a little less thought and energy and create your own art? Sculpting auto body work isnt all that difficult and in the end you will have that warm fuzzy feeling knowing you created something for yourself.

Anyway, does it not occur to you to shoot an e-mail or PM to the person whose work you wish to copy and ask if it is Ok to do so or if they offer some sort of licensing? Had you inquired, you would have found that for less than the price of a complete pair of DP headlights you can buy a master model set of the seven models required for producing your own molds and with that comes no restrictions on how many parts you may produce from them. In addition, for the price of a set of painted DP headlights you can get a complete set of the seven RTV molds required to produce the dual projector headlights. So, as you can see, sometimes it pays to do the ethical thing and not be such sneaky shiat. There you have it, if you care to take me up on my offering, let me know. thumbsup

I don't know a lot about copyright laws, but I don't think it would be illegal to copy them, especially if he does not have a patent on the product. I'd have to look into it further though.

OK, illegal or not, it's still f'ed up to steal someone's hard work! Anyone who would actually consider doing this should be ashamed of themselves. Now, if someone wanted to be industrious and build their own design, great. I'm sure that there are plenty of people on here that would be VERY happy to help and offer advice. Before any of you think about doing this... stop and put yourself in Tater's position. How would you feel if you had originally come up with the idea to market these light, then someone comes along and uses your own work to make copies of and undercut you. Fact of the matter is, it's wrong. Don't do it, even if it may not be illegal, have a little bit of respect for your fellow man.

Thanks, that's my stance on the issue.

Copyright laws do not apply to items such as headlights but design and utility patent laws do.

It would be great to see someone produce a quality alternative to this style of light and at a price that the casual customizer could afford. Here is an idea: Everyone that wants an affordable alternative send an e-mail to TYC [elegantebytyc.com] sales and marketing dept asking them to produce a headlight with dual projectors. Their e-mail address is salesmarketing@genera.com . Also include a link [valentino.ms] to a picture of the DP headlight so they will see that everyone is interested in the same thing. If they get enough requests, they just may produce something interesting.

I like that dudes idea that he said if we make a list of 20 ppl that realy want them bad and buy them he may sell em for less, great job man, see i never thought of dat. And all you *** ****** out dea that are against me **** ** ****** ******* **** got dat... angry
