Hey, I noticed this weekend that my cigarette lighter is not working. It lights up, but whenever I try to use it as a power source or as a lighter, nada. I just noticed it this weekend, but I don't think I have ever used it before, so I'm wondering if I might have blown a fuse when I put in my new gauges, or if it just never worked in the first place.

Anyone know how I can diagnose the problem and/or fix it? I just want to find out if I need to replace a wire, fuse, or whatever, and just wanted to know which wire runs to it. Thanks.

That's what I was thinking, so I thought that maybe a wire fried or something, but the problem is, I don't know which wire it is, and I don't feel like ripping up the dash to find it.

what are you plugging into it?
a cell phone charger?
sometimes the chargers have a fuse inside the thing that plugs to the cig lighter..
make sure that's not the problem... open it up and look at the fuse (that's if you can).
try using something else and test it to see if it works.

i know theres an article in here somewhere describing how a guy switched his cigarette lighter wiring to another source because he wanted his cellphone to charge even when his car wasnt running...can't find it though.

if you can find this post, it'll give you the wiring and it had pics, as well. try doing a few searches. thumbsup

I tried a spot light, radar detector, and I also tried to use the lighter as it's intended to be used but to no avail. And yes, the car was on. And that wiring mod is just so you are able to use the power source when the car is off, that won't necessarily help me fix the lighter and get it working again. Thanks anyways though.

well the point was to let you know what wires are which and what fuses are which. obviously you werent trying to change the source...but you had asked what was what and that should at least explain that.

Always helpful. grin

Anyone know what fuse # the cig lighter is connected to? Also, does that fuse power anything else? Why I asked that last question is because if it does power anything else, I could check to see if that works, and if it doesn't, it's the fuse, if it does, it's my wiring. I looked at the lighter fix in the install section, and it doesn't say which fuse it feeds off from, just what fuse to hook it up to. I'm guessing that a lot of things from the console feed from the same fuse, and that it's not the fuse cause everything else is working fine, but I'll try anything. Thanks. thumbsup

the cig lighter has its own 15 amp fuse and does not power anything else.

...so you can probably use a voltmeter to test if it is working or not.
