Has anyone else noticed that the 2000 gt is goverened at 110mph. Is the gts governed there too or any of the newer celicas? Also does anyone know how to adjust or remove the governor. I think its a chip, but i could be wrong. Thanks

its only the '02 models. these models have a rev limiter and the redline is lowered.

the '00 and 01 models are not limited. also the '03 models are not limited either.

Are you sure the 00 aren't limited. I hit 110 and the rpm's dropped from 7 down to 4 and the car wouldnt go any faster.

GT's max speed is like 118 or something anyway. So sounds about right. It's all the engine is capable of doing.

Sounds more like a fuel cut-off and not a govenor.

My 2002 GT has done around 120 without cutting off. It does cutoff at around 6.8k right before redline. Really sucks, have to shift or else you hit a wall.

i've had it up to between about 125-130 before on an open road, but as far as i've heard, the speedo isn't too accurate at high speeds, but no limit to anything as far as i've seen.

Maybe for the autos, but I've gone 125mph on my stock GT.

yeah, you need a calibrated speedo to do an accurate mph/kph read on speeds of over 100 mph. the more over the 100 mph mark you go...the more innacurate the stock speedos will be.

the "theoretical top speed" of a 5-spd gt is 123 mph. but in reality..you will never get there.

I have done 130 and my car didnt shut off, just kind of stopped going. It ran out of juice, but there was no fuel cut off.

I have read that the GTS is rev limited around 135. Got my car close many times but it takes too long in the 6th gear and the long arm of the law is all ways watching.

thats not rev limited...thats just running out of power. a gts top speed is around 130, the engine just can't push it after that because it lacks the power to go faster.

can't go much faster anyway...the tranny would eventually limit it after a few mph gains thumbsup

how come ppl have been up to 145s with just a cai? do you guys mean that you end up with space and you cant make it go faster? is it a matter of the mph not going up anymore cz the engine is not stronger than that or you dont have enough space to make it to 145? im sure you can make it to 145 but its gonna take like a minute from 130

I've gone little over 135mph on my 03 GTS and still willing to go more got very close to red line. I think GTS kicks back around 8300rpm. This was just stock GTS.

I HAVE A 2000 GTS 6 SPEED AND AM IN GERMANY I HADE MINE UP TO 135-38 AND STILL HADE ROOM TO GO YOU REALY DONT WANT TO CHANGE YOUR GOV. CAUSE YOU CAN BLOW YOUR ENGINE BESIDE IF YOU UP GRADE YOUR ECU. THAT WILL HELP BUT YOU NEED TO REMEBER THAT OUR CARS IN THE STATES ARE MADE FOR 1/8 OF AN MILE,1/4 OF A MILE NOT TOP END SPEED BUT IF YOU REALY WANT THAT CHANGE OUT YOUR ECU AND TRANYING TO AN EUROPEN ONE THAN YOU WILL BE GOOD HOPE THIS HELPS

with typical mods (mods other than replacing a tranny or raising your redline) the more power you add the faster top end you will have.

its important to note, though, that adding gobs of power is useless if you want to increase top end and have a stock tranny and typical redline. your cars tranny can only move the tires so fast before it breaks (too much redlining). your stock celica is made to get as close to redline as possible in all gears. to make a car that wasnt close to redlining in ALL of its gears is inefficient--and just isn't done by manufacturers because of this.

adding power is usefull for going fast faster not really for the reason of top speed. thumbsup
