On the BRIGHT side for those of us who like import sports cars- Mazda seems to be starting to come back as an actual contender. The RX-8 is (in my view) a good equal to our cars. The 3 blows away our Corolla's. The Miata is supposedly being worked on by Mazdaspeed for release of a model this year . Still nothing like the Supra out there for us right now, but nobody can predict the future. ah the rx8 is rotary, i really am not a fan of rotary engines, you can produce much more power with normal engines, thats why everyone else uses them, but i do like the rx7 and the rx8 is a nice car, a little pricey. I dont like miatas, i personally think they have a gay vibe, but a new one might be cool. I do like the specs of the 3 tho, a very decent car. Still for the price of a rx8 you could get a good 350z which is, well, better

might be a nice car with some good mods. by far the nicest scion I've seen yet. Perhaps this with a 2zz or 3sgte would be a more than worthy car, but only with 5 speed so far. Keep working on it toyota. maybe you'll get a cool scion out there eventually

Well it's a good step for the "scion" models, but as far as a replacement for the Celica, that's a big NO. I want Toyota to suceed, but then there's a part of me that wants them to realize what a mistake it is that they are not bringing the 8th gen Celica to the U.S., and how they are not coming back with the Supra. Hopefully someone will realize it eventually.

blah... the tC looks like so much other crap that's out there. n: Sure, I suppose it could be modded with a body kit and the other typical import ricer crap, but that's still weak compared to the Celica. I don't know about everyone else, but I like (and bought) my celica mainly because of it's exotic "LOOK AT ME!" design. ...and that's stock. A modded celica is just about enough to get me hard. Toyota discontinuing the Celica helped me make a very critical decision. You see, I am currently leasing my Celica and have been debating as to whether or not to spend money on all the mods and buy it when my lease is up, or to save my money and buy a next gen Celica instead. Well... looks like I'm keeping my car. Scion=

Scion= I agree Scion is making a effort but I totally agree with the text I bolded, just the other day a bunch of kids were skate boarding in my neighborhood and as I drove by they yelled out "Dude we like your car!", and I constanly get compliments on my car from complete strangers, and its cool to see people turn their heads and check out your ride because it looks like nothing else on the road. There isn't car on the market (comparable to the Celica price and attributes) that can even pull that much attention

Scion spells LowHP
Aren't the other ones like 110hp?
Talk about a slow moving brick.

i dont think scion make this car for races. they made it for looks and economy with a little power. this car is really nice for someone at age 18-21 who cant afford a g35 IMO. remember its around 20,000$ or less. you get what you pay for. but if this car was 220hp+ and had a better interior with good aftermarket support, i wouoldnt mind buying it. dont compare it with a celica cz its nothing like it

so according to microsoft's NAIAS 04 coverage, the TC is gonna have a dealer installed supercharger option which they say would bring it up to 200hp and for the new eclipse... there will be a hybrid package that runs the front wheels with a v6 300+ hp engine and the rear wheels with an electric engine. pretty wierd eh? here's the link http://autoshow.msn.com/as/autoshow2004/article.aspx?xml=Mitsubishi&src=autoshow2004

You have to remember that the whole youth orientation of the Scion hits more with the older generation than the young. Cheap reliable car + Toyota quality + hip youth image = many over 30 buyers. Toyota never made much money off of sports cars. Exibit the Supras and MR-2's (the real ones not this spyder crap), both were made with little profit margin. Toyota is the mega motor company it is because of practical cars not fast ones. It really doesnt surprise me at all that they are stopping the current celica.

in response to dmax03...many car companies do not make big profit margins on sportscars (one huge exception is the mustang). the sportscar market is very overcrowded and extremely competitive. many companies use sportscars more as an advertisement of their brands and what they are capable of doing..not so much to make a notable profit margin off of them.
that said, they do make a profit..it's just not as great as lets say..the truck market...which is almost totally owned by domestic manufacturers and is less competitive in respect to models available.
