To my knowledge you can't turbo an 02' GTS but you can supercharge it. I was wondering if anyone has done it, how much it cost em, and how they like it.

to my knowledge (don't quote me) the blitz supercharger is the only supercharger marketed for the celica. cost is about $5,000 and it has gotten rave reviews (similar to that of the xs engineering turbo).

a helpful/interesting article can be found in turbo magazine, which you can link to here: turbo magazine: blitz supercharger for celica [turbomagazine.com]

note: im stupid on this subject. . but anyways

5000$ for 33.6whp, semms kinda shitty. when other kits like SF cost alot, (even if it was 5000$) and ppl put down like 300whp. . i think im thinkin' right .. . soo hungover

yea the blitz doesn't get you anything for what it costs.

Turbo is the way to go on a celica for the price.

but doesn't Supercharged on the boards have his celica supercharged? lol, hence the name.

ok here...

Blitz made a supercharger for the GTS
XS Engineering made a turbo for the GTS
Trial also has a supercharger for the GTS but in Japan

for GT
TRD has a 1zz supercharger, but will not fit in GT's engine bay due to hood clearance
David Draper made a turbo kit for the GT
and there is one other who has a turbo for the GT

a few things about the blitz supercharger and the xs engineering turbocharger:

the cost of both is almost exactly the same($5,000)

with the xs turbo, you get peak horsepower of about 233 (in 50 state legal trim--you can get about 251 if you go illegal--no cat, etc)

with the blitz sc, you get peak horspower of about 199 horses. however, this figure was obtained by turbo magazine on an ecu that was tuned for japanese 100 octane gas. the american version of blitz will be tuned for 91 octane gas so the horsepower figure should be higher than this (probably not too much higher though)

the xs turbo runs at 7.5 psi
the above #'s for the blitz were at 6.3psi

with the supercharger..you get increases across the powerband.
with the xs turbo, you get more top end..but surprisingly for a turbo you get a lot down low (at 3k rpms, an extra 40 lb/ft of torque was added--unusual for a turbo and a testament to xs engineering's prowess)

the trial sc is a modified blitz sc...it will accept 91 octane...if you have an auto gts(like me cry)...forget about the xs turbo or any sc...it runs with a different ecu (apexi power fc) which doesn't work with gts auto.
and the blitz sc runs off of a clutch engaged system...so obviously no manual no clutch

That GT supercharger by TRD is gonna cost around $3000. I have already looked into it. tongue

so even an auto can turbo or supercharger but only if you get another ecu to handle all the functions or maybe keep the stock one with an extra ecu...(kinda new on ecu's here and F.I.)

TRD isn't making a supercharger for the GT. they make a supercharger for the VVT-i which fits the corolla and matrix, but wont fit the celica GT due to hood problems.

SC is more reliable and will give power all across the powerband, so dont be fooled by peak HP numbers. the apexi power FC tuned by monkeywrench had a few(maybe 6-7 tq) gain up top, but down low produced much much more.

not all cars have a clutch - automatics use a torque converter in place of a transmission clutch. The clutch for a supercharger is a completely different assembly that has nothing to do with the transmission. Unless there is a clearance issue under the hood, or the electronics won't work there is no reason why you can't supercharge an automatic.

I had parts managers at two different Toyota dealers tell me prices for a TRD supercharger for the celica... It's not on these sites tho...i do know what you are talking about. They do make one for the 1.8L matrix and corolla, but that doesn't mean that they aren't developing one for the celica

I'd wait another 12-18 months first to see if HKS or Greddy develop a powerful turbocharging option for the Celica. Veilside offer a turbo for the MR2, using a Greddy turbo I think (could be wrong about Greddy). Isn't the MR2 VVTi engine the same as in the Celica?

I think eventually a company is going to come up with a 300bhp solution - then I'll be able to have an awesome soundtrack with the bonus of a dump valve spineyes

I don't think that Greddy will ever release a turbo kit for the 7th gen. HKS is a possability though.
