Hey, I have a 2000 GT and I have a question about the exhaust...I did a search on this but could not come up with a good answer. Can a TRD GTS exhaust be placed on a GT? I understand there could be a problem with back pressure but has anyone tried this and found any ways around it? I found a really good deal on the TRD exhaust but it's only for a GTS. Any help would be great, thanks!

Don't think you can do it without some mod's to the exhaust itself cause the engines diff. I'd say stick to what fits your car. There are ton's of good deals out there.

Well I have a GTS used to have a GT but never did anything to it. You might have to modify the pipe. But in all seriousness the two engines are very different I wouldn't put anything on it that wasn't designed for it.

the stock gt and gts exhausts are different and most aftermarket exhausts are model specific (either gt or gts) that said, i think some straight pipe exhausts can fit on both the gt and gts (don't quote me on this)

no you dont have to alter anything at all. design in the stock exhaust systems are different, however all hangers are in the same place. i know first hand because i just installed a TSRM onto my GT from a GTS, and it works fine. the ONLY difference between aftermarket systems on the GT and GTS would be larger diameter piping on the GTS. some companies(like tanabe i believe), only make one exhaust that fits both cars. i have known a handful of people that have put GTS TRD exhaust on GT's because the diameter of the GTS TRD exhaust is bigger (4 inch) and it has worked out perfectly fine. so if you have a good deal, go for it.

I'm not doubting it will work... I'm sure that the fasteners are in the same places to save money in production... my doubt has to do with performance. Some companies might make only one exhaust for both models, but I'd be interested to know if the gains are the same as the model-specific exhausts. I'm sure Toyota didn't spend money creating two unique exhausts when it wasn't needed.

It prolly wont be ass efficient for the engine cause if the pipe is too big there won't be any pressure build up

Yeah I'm not sure what the exhaust would do performance wise..but even if it gained more than stock I'd be interested in it, because I can get this brand new for $50.

Whoa... $50? How bout you toss that my way for a bargin and you can use that money to go toward a GT exhaust? (only half kidding) Seriously though, if you want to try it I sure would for that price. Heck, some of us on the boards even told a guy to try his motorcycle exhaust on his Celi. Can't do any harm... might as well try it if it isn't costing anything.
