I got ten of these babies from an auction on Ebay, and I'll be installing them in my AC Console pretty soon. Both lights are out as of now, so these will be more than welcomed. I'm planning on splicing their wires into the cig lighter, so do you guys think that the black is ground? I'll post some pics after they are installed.

2 wires, red and black. Black looks to be ground, right?

Ok, I'm at work now so I decided to install one of these lights real fast. I used a knife and pliers for the whole install, and I must have tapped into the wrong red cig lighter wire because the light works fine, but as soon as the lights turn on, they go off. And in addition to that, one light illuminates about one square centimeter. Should I have tapped into the red wire with a black line on it, taped together with the green wire I used for ground, cause I didn't? I tapped into the single red wire connected to a white piece that connects to the cig lighter.
Any ideas?

Usually the red and black are the ones that you want but I ran my indiglo gauges off of my cig lighter and if memory serves I believe the green wire is the one that you want. I will try to double check and get back with ya.

And in response to the post before these two, I saw that more than one wire had a black line going down it.

Here is a link to someone's install guide for some neons they put into their console. He has pics of what wires he spliced into, but it's hard to pinpoint them... **************LINK************** [ clubcelica.com]

I'm at school now but I've got two hours inbetween classes so I'm gonna see if I can find the right wires to hook it up to. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.

I fixed my problem. Turns out that I grounded to the green and it wasn't the right wire cause the bulbs went out when the lights turned on, so I grounded it to the red with black stripe and it works fine.
I got everything hooked up, but when I put the console back on, the wires got pinched between the white console plastic, and the dash, or whatever it's called. The lights flicker trying to get enough power to stay lit, then they just went out, so hopefully they didn't burn out. Tonight, I'm just going to file some of the white plastic off the top of the plastic mount so the wires have room to breathe. Wish I had one of those Dremel things, but I guess I'll just use a drill or file if I can find one.

Good that you got it fixed. I looked at my wiring like I promised and I have it connected to the green wire and the black/white wire. That combination is running my indiglo gauges. Like the install guide definately gonna have to try that mod.

that's the problem w/regular led's back there.. the light isn't spread out enough...
i now sell bulb covers for the a/c controls/lighter bulbs in red/blue/amber
I'm starting to prototype a circuitboard that will use surface mount led's that will just slide back there perfectly but it's in very early stages

I was wondering why it didn't look bright, even though they are like 100 times brighter than the stock bulbs. How could the light be diffused more evenly?

For the AC control, it has regular filament bulb(conventional light bulb) but AC button and defroster uses two LED... And for the cig light, it has regular bulbs...
