Yah, as long as your car isn't in water above the top of your wheel, you should be more than fine, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a tool.

i drove from portland to seattle (4.5 hours) in poaring rain, and was fine, and i dont think it gets any worse than that, so yea like already stated, just dont drive in big puddles. and if you want to be real carful you can buy and injen watershield for the filter, ive got one

Little or nothing, right? The straw or intake has to be submerged in water in order for it to suck any water into your intake. As for big puddles, as long as they aren't as tall as your car, you will be fine.

So, there really is no neccessity for a by-pass valve nor a heat shield?

Not unless you are planning on driving through flood waters or going off road, which you shouldn't do with a Celica unless you are drunk. I've driven through puddles half way up my tire before and didn't even hear or notice a change in the engine, and if you got water in there you would notice cause you would be fucked, but it's not gonna happen unless you drive into a lake. Also, a bypass valve for the AEM brand will hinder any gains you get, and I think the same might be said for the Injen brand.

Heat shield does increase the performance of the intake a little more, but more with the short ram than the CAI. It might not be a BAD idea for the bypass valve, what like an extra $40 for the safety of your engine, you've already dumped AT LEAST $200 into the intake whats another $40 some odd dollars just in case. But it is true that you ought to be fine as long as you don't try to ford a river in the celica. Personally I'd get the bypass valve just in case. But that's just me. And I have a spending disorder.
