What do you all think of it? It looks like a tiburon and a rsx collided and the back wheel got drug out a foot. Supposly factory supercharged? Not sure

it's pretty neat.
I just read an entire article about the Scion's in Automotive news the other day...
supposedly, each model would only last like 3 years or something and new things are gonna be added all the time.

I read in the paper the other day that in Japan the Scion, I think it was a Scion, will be offered with an option to parallel park itself automatically. No driver inputs needed. I still don't like it that much.

you could group them with those because of the price...but they DO NOT compare to Scion when it comes to everything else but price.

thats right..i guess hyundai makes more powerful engines than the scions. spineyes

in any case..they can be compared. their are all (for the most part) economically designed, cheaply priced, similar in performance.

the difference would be that scion is trying to get their autos into the youth market while kia, hyundai, and previously daewoo were just appealing to those with a thin wallet. BUT how much of this is true so far? it's really hard to tell (because the market is so limited right now because of availability reasons--i have only saw on scion so far, an xb). but for what its worth, i have heard just as many economy buyers buying scions as youth buyers.

perhaps. i have no experience of my own to rely on (or that of anyone else's) so i can't really argue. but i would question whether a $10,000 car has 'good quality'. it's possible, but to me it's almost an oxymoron.

Daewoo did indeed go out of business. I think the moral of the story is not to offer 10 year warrantys to attract buyers if the cars only last four years spineyes

I can't believe you would compare the Scions to the economy cars like Kia. There are two MAJOR differences.

First, unlike Kia and Hyundai, the Scion brand is able to make use of Toyota know-how and manufacturing processes to produce a car of quality build. They might not be as attractive, well-equipt and powerful as Toyotas, but I'd bet the farm that they are going to prove just as reliable.

Second, the Scions don't seem to be cutting corners with the interrior to make the cars cheaper. If you've ever been in a xA or xB you know what I'm talking about. They have the interrior feel of a $20-25k car. Sitting in a Hyundai is like sitting in a room furnished at garage sales tongue

You (and many others) may hate how they look... but they are indeed quality cars if you'd ever take the time to see one from the driver seat.

and that's what I say...they don't compare...only for price and maybe engine wise, other than that..the Scion looks/feels better than those other crap things and will last longer.

i dont know if the interior looked something like that, i dont think so though. interior doesnt look real good. but i dont htink the gauges in the middle. cloth seats only, no leather interior. I really like the car, its very good looking for its price. the headlights and hood look like bmw's. 5spd car for 20,000$ pushing to 159hp and 200hp with factory supercharger for 22,000$.

Get your facts straight. Daewoo never offered 10yr/100k warranties. And they went outta business cause the CEO ran away with all the money...hahaha. It was Hyundai that actually that started it all with the crazy warranties and they seem to be doing just fine. I agree that Hyundais are aimed at low income peeps, but i drove a new tiburon and lemme tell you that thing can hang with the GTS no problem.

if you guys think about it, i think hyundai did a good thing with the 10yr warranties. after all, its just powertrain. shouldn;t most cars on the market have this type of warranty? what good is a car that can't even run 100k miles? because of hyundai a lot of companies have upgraded their warranty plans, and frankly, we should be thanking hyundai for it.

just my two cents

My mistake about the warranty thing. Wasn't too vital to any point I was trying to make anyway I guess tongue

I am glad that Hyundai is forcing the bigger companies to look at their warranty periods, but I don't think most will ever match the 10 years. Almost all cars will make it 100k these days, but most will also have quite a few minor to mildly larger repairs along that way too. No reason that Toyota/Ford/GM will take on all that extra expense when so many people already trusts their reliability.

You see this pisses me off! I hate it Toyota spends a shit load of money on all their cars performance except for their only real sports car the CELICA!!!! WTF? But I do like the Scion Van< SUV or whatever it is . Someone interested in car audio could have a field day with this ride. Also I do a lot of Traveling (travel RN) and It would be cool to have all the extra space. wtf

I saw the Scion TC at the Detroit auto show last weekend. I think it has a really nice design and is a very good bargin, I was impressed.

It comes standard with 17" wheels, panaramic power sliding moon roof (the whole roof of the car is glass, the front section opens), and the Toyota Camry 2.4 liter VVT-I 2AZ engine which makes 160 HP and 163 lbs-ft. All of that will only set you back $16,000, what's not to like about that? smile

yep...05 is going to be a big year with redesigns for Toyota...just everybody wait.
Plus, no need to bash the Scion's, it's not like you are gonna be the one buying it. I personally like them grin
I'm not gonna have one, but will definately get them to sell at Toyota. thumbsup

The MR2 is being discontinued again? confused

That is crazy! Isn't what's currently out the return of the MR2 after it was discontinued for a while? Seems strange to bring a car out of retirement, build it on a chassis that you don't use for any other car in your line up, then turn around and immediately discontinue it again.

Yeah, I heard this and was sad. I doubt that I'd ever buy one, but they are cool to see around. I think if they would have just dumped a better engine in there (2zz!) they would have been much more successful. I remember that when they came out, all the auto mags were raving about the design...

Toyota, what are you doing to your followers? confused
