Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Paint does not match, need info...

I had my dent on the back left fender fixed yesturday and when I went to go pick it up, the color dosn't really match. Its a little bit darker than the original, the color is pretty close but still noticeable (I can see where they painted it). I ask the guy who worked on my car about it and he said that the color is still new and needs time to fade, give it a week or two... Is this true or is he bullshitting me? Has anybody have the problem? Any help is appreciated! And oh yeah, the color is solar yellow!

yea bro...its impossible to get the right color...the sun fades it over time.. they have the right color code but its not gonna match up because of the paint fading...u get it?

Yup this happened to my father's Camry. He had a scratch fixed and the paint took months to match up perfectly. Eventually your paint will match up, give it time and it will look great.

personally i think the guy who did the repair painting did a bad job. its basica painting 101 to know that you have to BLEND IN paint. you don't just repaint the area that needs to be repainted..you have to repaint that area and repaint everything in near proximity with less and less paint (think of a fading pattern) so your eyes (and other peoples eyes) won't notice it.

unless you got a really good deal and got it done cheap cheap..you got the short end of the stick with this guy and i wouldnt take it back.

furthermore..you have an '03 celica..your paint will not have faded THAT much to be very noticeable even (which is why i KNOW he didnt blend the paint in) if he didn't blend the paint it. imo, he may not have even used your factory paint code.

the paint color code for 'solar yellow' (as mentioned in your profile) is "576 solar yellow" most likely by toyota...call the shop and ask exactly what they used. as i said before, you have an '03 so painting with the factory paint should not have been very noticeable becaue fading would have been kept to a minimum due to recency. in any case--he DEFINATELY should have blended in the paint to where no one could notice it.

got my new wing painted and installed not too long ago. to my eyes the color match was flawless. could be my eyes not being able to see it, but it looks perfect to me. mine is solar yellow too and it saw a lot of sun in the summer time.

I had my rear bumper painted after I was rear ended and They matched the paint perfectly It didn't have to fade at all.

Like Speed said, you have to blend it if it's an older car (they basically fade the new paint into the old, gradually). Any professional shop should know that.

yea some colors are very difficult and almost impossible to blend...red is one of the hardest colored to match cause it fades soo much give it sometime it will blend together after awhile

He is bullshitting you.

A lot of people are saying that it just needs to catch up to the rest of the cars level of fade. I don't even see how that is possible? Wouldn't the whole car uniformly fade, always leaving the repaired panel darker then the rest of the car? Unless of course, you always park your car in a way that it is all in the shade except for the one area that needs to fade.

The body shop should have been able to either blend the new factory paint in with the rest of car in a convincing manner, or re-mix the factory yellow so it will look the same as the rest of the car. Having the one panel they painted not match the rest of the car is unacceptable IMO. You should take it back again and demand that they do it right.

I agree. They charge a lot of money, they should do the job right.
