not an expert here either but if it's the same engine, i dont think you gonna have problems mounting it..im just not 100% sure if your manual tranny will work on the auto engine that you are getting

i agree with dondiemand i guess you still have to change the transmission dude, the transmission for the manual is different from automatic.

I don't see why you couldn't use that engine. The auto and manual have the same motor so it should bolt up and just make sure to use the computer from your manual car. This is just my opinion from past experiences with other cars. I've done engine swaps from auto cars into manuals and it worked fine but it was also on early 90's V-8's. But I don't see why it wouldn't work, try calling a Toyota service department and pick their brains.

i didnt say he couldnt use the engine..im just saying that he might have to change his transmission coz he had a manual before and now he's mounting an engine with an automatic transmission..anyway, yeah, it's wise to ask an expert about this matter..goodluck!

Can't he just keep his manual transmission and mount it on the new engine? I don't know much on this, but the two pieces are independent of each other, no? The engine isn't automatic, the transmission is. So get the new engine, take the auto tranny off, and install your 6-spd tranny. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Few people had swap auto tranny with manual tranny no problem.. So I'm assuming motor is exactly same for auto and manual... They had to use Manual ECU though...
So You can just bolt up the auto engine without auto tranny.. right up to the manual tranny...

I am doing something similar to this as well. I have a 02 GT and im swapping a 4 speed auto for a 5-speed manual. its a pain in the ass as far as ordering parts. I have to get the trany, then linkages and shifter, then lightweight fly wheel and double plate clutch(im going ahead and upgrading some parts so i don't have to get trany work done twice), I just found out a while back that i have to get a new front axle to have my manual work right. Now after hearing what you all had to say, im guessing i need a ECU out of a manual Celica. Im finding most of my parts from Car-part.com,,,where can i find that Manual ECU? ![bs <img src=]() " title="" src="graemlins/bs.gif" />
Drive it like you stole it.

If you decided to swap your engine...its gonna cost just about as much as a superchager or a turbo...and then some...coz getting the parts..labor will all add up...coz i've had a friend who tried to do that with his civic and it was predidcted over 5g's so...its basically up to you..
Its not what you think...its what you do..
