no radar detector is the best one. But i sure would say a Radar Jammer/scrambler/radar is your best choice..

Ditto. Def. get the Valentine. That's the one I plan on getting. At $400, it's a little steep, but if you wanna avoid tickets, it's prob. your best bet grin

the escort or passport whatever its named after. I get them for cheap at work and they perform awesome. To bad that more than half of tickets issued are not from radar. (planes, speed traps, etc)

i heard theres some on the market that shut off when a police radar is detected for people like myself that cant have radar detectors in there state,so that way the cop wont know you have one, anyone know where i can get one of these

You NEVER drive over the speed limit?

I generally drive 10-15 over, but I've found that radar detectors don't work nearly as well as some good spotting. If the cop can't see you, or doesn't have line of sight, the radar can't see you. Don't speed around blind turns and over hills, or when coming up onto known dicky pits.

Works for me! thumbsup

Because everyone in their right mind speeds. 65 on a totally open freeway? Give me a break. Driving 70-75 is totally safe under most operating conditions. I'd say even 80 is totally safe in a reliable vehicle under most conditions.

Not everyone uses radar to drive 100+ in traffic.

thank you revmonster, i aint trying to drive crazy or stupid, trust me, i got a kid on the way, and i dont want to go like 40 over, just once in a while i want to go 10 or 15 over, and yeah, in a open highway or dry conditiond, theres no reason why 80 over 65 is no prob, but here in va, you go 2 over and you get pulled, trust me, i used to live in miami, fl and i used to be like 12 over right next to cops who were even standing on the road checking out people, they dont care as much, as long as your not driving "crazy" by swirving in and out of traffic, if you just drving straight, then wahts the prob, i got pulled over by va cop doing 7 over, what the f**k, thats what im talking about.

I never said that... all I said was drive with some common sense. Just like you described in the rest of your message. Do that and you should be fine.

confused cops can't tell if you have a radar detector or not unless they see it, or if the front end of you car goes down b/c you slammed on your brakes (atleast this is true in FL).

I have a Passport 8500. It's pretty damn good for $300.

Funny story though... 5 days after I got it, I got a speeding ticket!

The radar detector worked just fine... the damn cop happened to be using Laser, basically it went off instantly and I hit the brakes. I was driving on the service road... He got me for 64 in a 40 frown If I wasn't forewarned it probably would have been about 75 in a 40 hehe.

Anyway, the Passport is good... very sensitive. I usually get light chirps even when the cop is out of view around a corner. So it's fair warning!

yes they can, my mother-in-law used to date a state trooper and he showed my wife, they have it, its built in with the speed detector so not only will they be detecting your speed, but at the same time they are detecting to see if you are trying to detect them, so im trying to find the one that turns off, or you can hide it, like in the grill, with a small remote unit inside
