Ok... obviously i do not know the proper term for that...
But the part that i am trying to find is the one piece of long metal that holds the battery. There are two long metal pieces, whose end looks like a hook, that hold the battery from each sides, and then there's another flat piece that connects these two metal hooks on the top of the battery. I need the one of those hooks (near the driver side).
oh yeah.. and.. it'd be nice if anyone can tell me where to get the right bolts for that.
ever since I lost that piece, i have replaced it with a hanger, but sometimes the engine won't start until i pop the hood and shake the battery a little bit (it's a new battery). what could be the problem?? my guess is that i need to hold down the batter tight.
thanks for all your help in advance.

its called a battery tie down...
and there's no reason your engine shouldnt start... its not mechanical, just there so that the battery doesnt move around.

how often does your car not start? can you hear the starter or does it just not turn over?

make sure the battery connections are tight. the tie down holds the battery in place, and if its not there, the battery can move around. This may have caused one of the connections to come loose!

well.. it does that about 50% of the time i try to start the engine.
when i try to ignite the engine, i hear this 'CLICK~' sound once and then the car won't start as if the battery is dead. however, when i pop the hood and shake the battery once (or just hit it lightly) but power is back on... weird huh? Again, battery is new so nothing's wrong with the battery.
after reading your reponses i'm gussing that it could be the connection.. but then ... i had my battery replaced at a repair shop.. i don't think they made any mistakes in connecting batteries though... hmm...

they obviously made a mistake if they forgot to hook up the battery tie down It's hard to get it back on, so they might have said forget it, you won't notice it.

then its either your starter or an electrical connection to your starter... before you go buy a starter get a shop to make sure all the electrical connections are good...

starter is about 150 for celica... i think. if you cant replace a battery, there's no way in hell you'll be able to replace your starter
CHECK ALL YOUR CONNECTIONS FIRST... it could save you the $$$ for a new starter.

well.. it happens RANDOMLY. Sometime it would start w/o any hesitation. sometimes it would not start after a short 'click' sound. again, if i shake the battery, and start the engine, it starts fine.
but i know the battery is not dead because the engine always starts up right away, if not at all.
what's the test that you mentioned, isaac?
ps: i know how to replace the battery. just that i was lazy.. and i was kind of hoping the repair shop would find the battery tie for me.

A new new battery tie-down can be purchased from your local toyota dealership for about $10... the OBD2 test is just pluging a reader into your OBD2 box and reading what it says - this also is what most shops use to diagnose a check-engine light... here's some information on a consumer version... https://celicahobby.com/ubbthreads/thread.f_212837_0_collapsed_5__1.html
