Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Gauges and the grief they cause...

So I recieved my AC gauges today and was putting them in all fine and dandy when I figured out that my tach needle absolutely could not clear the '3d' portion of the gauges (the part with the MPH)...it was dragging along. So i tried it in car, same result, and ended up taking it all apart. As I was taking off these new gauges, I ended up breaking off the tach needle 'stopper' (that little tiny skinny piece that sticks up to stop the tach at 0). I successfully glued it back on, but I'm definately rattled...so, working at a Toyota dealership, I decided to price out a new one...and you have to get the whole gauge cluster, of course. $700.00 Canadian, and that is COST. List price is almost $1100.00. So...does anyone here know of aftermarket gauges that replace that whole cluster, or would sell me part of this cluster (the part with the stoppers + gauges) for a good price?

taht sucks man, sry i can't help you, but that is y im staying away from aftermarket gauges and wiring on the interior i like the stock look better anyway everything matches on the 03

Yea...i wanna change my lcds to red but the more i hear about stuff like this...the more i dont wanna touch it. Your best bet would probably be to go lookin through junk yards. I even see clusters on ebay every now and then. Hope that helps.

Sorry bro, that sucks. I was sketchy about removing my needle last week and it worked out OK but I knew in the back of my head that it was possible that I could accidently wreck something. Hope it works out for you.

I happen to have 2 needle stoppers laying around from an old cluster I took apart. You want ?????
Edit: just remembered, this might be a waste of $ but if you buy the GTS TRD overlay it comes with 2 stoppers.

Stephen- why did you take the needles off???

I had this problem too...i installed them and then the mph would go but my RPM's werent budging. I took the gauge back out and it turns out i just didnt have them screwed in tight enough. Once i Tightend it i had no problems.

why not get the other AC gauges instead?

yup same problem with my tach gauge it just wont move so i took out the s7 and went with the AC "el" series and loving them. you can be part of the "el" crew along with me. vsgts and stephen

I would absolutely love these! But do they actually come out of the original gauge face, or are they just kind of tacked onto it? So these stoppers you have would have to be glued onto the gauge face if i'm correct? Or do they actually pop out somehow?

Maybe drill a small hole and put a very basic earring in it, glue it and it might work.
