Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior GTS headlight got water in it... Help!

My headlight look like it got spot or water inside it on the Passenger side . Anyone have any idea how i can clean it?? Or how to prevent it from keep happening?

I'm not sure how much usable information is in that link, but the only reccomendation i can give you if it's already started happening is to 'bake' your headlights in the oven untill it's just loose enough to pry them apart, or untill the condensation goes away. Whichever happens first. Then Prevent it from happening by sealing the entire crevice with a silicon adhesive.

I took my headlight housing out and noticed that it already has a little rubber vent with a little sponge in it. My brother is a mechanic and suggested taking out the little sponge to give it MORE air flow to keep it dry. It helped a bit but then he suggested drilling another hole where it was safe to do so. I did that and left the car in the sun with the bulbs out. Ever since it's been dry.

so what should i do if i have water spots on the inside of my headlight housings? just bake em and clean them, then seal them with silicone, or talk to the dealer?

first take it to the dealer if you still have warranty. if not bake them, and when you close make sure you close it with silicone adhesive and apply lots of pressure to make sure it sealed great

Thanks everybody, for your advice. I'm taking it back to the dealer on Monday. I bought this car used, so I dunno what'll happen. but i'll take ur advise about baking it then sealing it with silicon. Sound like a good idea.

If you bought it used and you're having problem with it leaking, you may want to find out if it has been wrecked before and someone not telling you. Other than that, my friend bought some clear bumper lenses for his S-10 and they got moisture in them. He drilled three 1/8" holes in the bottom of them and it solved the problem.

Well so far so good. The hair dryer method work great. Except it rained all day on Sunday (Feb. 29) and it screw up my other headlight, the one i seal with silicon on Sat. morning works wonderful, not a singl spot of water in it. Now the other one after it rained, it got condensation in it. What a b*tch. So yesterday i took it out and hair dry it and seal it up, it's still gloomy outside today but nothing happen over night when i park the car on the street. I just saved myself $200-400 bucks. :O)..Dumb azz dealer said they'll fix it but it'll cost like >$100.

i took a hairdryer to mine and then just resealed them with silcone that they use for shower's and such hope that helps you

so far so good. No water got in for the last few days, which is always good. But small problem i notice after drying it, when the water precipitate away it left water marks, dunno how to get rid of it. otherwise i'm happy with the outcome. Look so much betta now then b4.
