Hey has anyone else heard bout this idea... the new solution to lowering gas prices is to stop purchasing mobil gas and purchse from other companies becuase they are one of the more major oil companies and once they lose business and their profits decline they will lower their prices...basically causing a chain reaction with other companies and causing other companies to lower their prices once more SO STOP USING MOBIL GAS ...LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS A REPOST i checked and i didnt find anything on it.

It doesn't matter where you buy it. It's a commodity. You would need every single person in the USA to agree to do it in order for it to work. Otherwise, the price of gasoline would decline slightly and then everyone would buy it, forcing the price back up.

Second, "swapping" is very common within the petrochemical industry. Say that Chevron gets a little short of unleaded in your area but they're long in another area. It's not uncommon to call up any competitor (even Mobile) and ask it to deliver supplies to their stations; in turn Chevron then delivers supplies to that company's stations in the area in which they're long. But, if it makes you feel good, go ahead and do it.

i have an exxon-mobil card..therefore i have always put exxon-mobil gas in my car (except for once i used shell v-ower---GREAT stuff & i love it, but expensive as hell)

however, i'm probably going to get a couple of cards now because exxon gas is really getting to be more expensive than anyone else's and since my jobs require me to drive for a long amount of time i can't afford to buy such expensive gas.

if you stop buying gas there, they will just stop taking it out of the ground.

one company owns 90% of the oil companies in the united states, if you think you can take them on, go ahead and try.

yes, but also something like 30% or 40% of our oil (and therefore gas) comes from the middle east and OPEC (which includes venezuela)

also, smaller percentages of oil (gas is made from refining oil blah blah blah) comes from the u.k., brazil, and some other minor players.

they will just stop? and what lose business lose all the money to the competition..how do you figure that...the first thing they would do if they have a surplus amount is to drop the prices of gas

Aren't they coming out with a new hydrogen gas...

i hope all the new generation cars are twin engine technology...

this way id have more cars to choose when i change my car.

they really just need to make hydrogen fueled cars that actually produce more than 100 bhp or electical cars than can produce more than 150bhp...the technology for this will eventually happen..it just takes cars.

in the meantime hybrid cars seem to be the way to go..but they too still need some help with the powerband.

hmm, as long as the hybrid can climb some hills in the city, that'd be no problem, i can always drive a celi on high ways..

would take a while to plan it all out...not to mension purchasing the cars might be expensive but i migth be wrong

that's not how gas works.

The investment is in the pumps, not the oil. They will just turn off the pumps, thus lowering their production costs, and gas prices will stay the same, and they will make MORE money off LESS sales of gas at the same price. When demand goes back up, they turn the pumps back on.

shortterm, gas is a constant demand (it stays the same)

only long term can gas demand be changed (because most people don't go out & buy a new car just because gas prices go up)
however, when they do buy their next car (usually within 4 years on average)...gas prices will be a consideration. (anything over 1 year is considerred long term). so eventually, if gas prices remain high, then IN A FEW YEARS gas demand will decrease because people will buy smaller cars.

don't forget that the way toyota got it's foot into the american market was because of the gas crisis of the 70s. toyota was making small compact cars that were good on gas for years, but americans stayed away from them because it was the age of "muscle cars". but when gas prices suddenly spiked, the people who bought new cars bought toyotas

enough history though--gas prices will eventually be controlled.

they currently do not have info for my zip code (70072) but gas prices at exxon (87 octane) is about 1.50. at the time savers & cheaper gas places gas is in the 1.40 range. (which is not that bad--new orleans usually has relatively cheap gas compared with the rest of the nation because of the proximity of refineries)

Somer folk might not like the south but when gas here is available at 1.69 for supreme (93) I really dread the idea of going to the NE or West coast
