I was walking home from school today and i saw a civic fly by. It had this bad-ass noise, he shifted and it was like chhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, lol, what are those called, sounded like air being forced out or something. If you know how much are they and where can i get them
BOV sounds more like pssssssssssssh but it could sound like a chhhhhhhhhhhh lol haha yea it was most likely a BOV making that sound and you need a turbo in order to have of those or you can just go on ebay and buy the BOV simulator that you stick in your exhaust
Re-circulating - which takes excess gas and feeds it back into the turbo during gear change. This enables the turbo to spool up much quicker when you floor it in the next gear, therefore reducing lag.
The second type is the atmospheric type. This simply releases the gas through a valve, hence making the pssssshhhh sound during the gear change. Performance will suffer but everyone will know you've got a big whopping turbo under your bonnet
A lot of turbocharged cars come with dump valves already on them. I know the Golf GTi does (re-circulating type) but due to low levels of boost is probably unecessary. For cars with high levels of boost however it can often be essential to have a dump valve.
My friends got a Lotus Esprit which unusually does not come with a dump valve fitted from the factory, but it was recommended that he fit one. He was told that the back pressure caused by lifting off the throttle could cause the compressor of the turbo to stall and in extreme cases actually shatter it.
LOL, I don't think your average hatch back civic is going to have this problem though
