Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Belt Tensioner Problem...

Hi all,

I have a problem with my celi, whenever i'm in my 1st or 2nd gear waiting to move off, there's a rattling noise in the engine bay, sounds really irritating...after reading one of the articles on the belt tensioner problem, i'm kinda relieved that it's really a technical fault...but seriously, any of you guys experienced this??

Lots people encounter "belt-tensioner" problem.

I made it replaced by local dealer, it's under warranty, so it's free replacement in USA.

I notice the rattle noise loudly after starting my Celica's engine, even in idel rev. The sound is terrible!

If you have the same condition, replace it immediatelly!

yea i agree, I had that problem too. Except it got so bad that driving around I still had that sound...even in 6th! well the sound came went off and back on and then stayed on forever, so I figured give it a try at toyota and yup, belt tensioner was loose and since I was outta my warranty, it cost almost 6 bills to fix, fix it rite away dude!

Thanks guys...got it replaced already at the local garage, any idea how much it costs for the belt tensioners for the GTS?? Will probably need to keep a few back here in singapore, most of the garages are all out of stock!!
