I have a 2003 Celica GT. I have read here on the forum several times that the 2003 Celica comes with a drive by wire system. But mine comes with a throttle cable (look at the pics and you will see). Now I want to see some pictures of a 2003 Celica GT with a drive by wire system.

it also might be the difference between american spec celicas & other foreign spec celicas. you live in europe, there are many things different between european spec celicas & american spec celicas (driving side, climate control, window auto-up, etc.) throttle cable/drive by wire may just be another of the many differences between the specs.

That is what mine looked like and they told me it was drive by wire... I can see your throttle cable. So it isn't drive by wire. With drive by wire you don't have cable (that you can tighten). Drive by wire is just a electronic conductive wire with something like a potentiometer, I guess (I had it with my previous car). Somebody with a 2003 GTS?

I am telling you that it is drive by wire... I will go out and take a pic of my pedals. That tells the hole story...

Here is the pic of the top of the pedal assembly. Non- drive by wire cars have the actual throttle cable connected. The cable connected to this pedal is just to comunicate with the computer...

Conclusion:
A GT comes with a throttle cable from 1999 to 2004
A GTS comes with a throttle cable from 2000 to 2002 and from then on a Drive By Wire system.
Black box on throttle body = DBW Cable to throttle body = throttle cable

Here is the pic of the top of the pedal assembly. Non- drive by wire cars have the actual throttle cable connected. The cable connected to this pedal is just to comunicate with the computer... Let your gf push the throttle witout the key in the ignition. If you see the cable move on your throttle body then it is mechanically controlled by the cable on your pedal. If you don't see it move it is electronically controlled (because there isn't anything that moves on the outside).

Well you got me... You are correct... I just wonder why the Power FC guys said it wouldn't work on a 2003 GT... Maybe I will call them again tomorrow... Congrats on your indepth investigation of this issue...
