is the cold air intake the cheapest way to increase horsepower? will it void a warranty? could i take it out without it being noticeable to my dealer? thanks!
a cold air intake is great for any car... i just installed mine today took me about 1.5 hours to do it myself, and it wasn't that hard at all, i know on the install sections it says to cut the wheel well plastics area, but i just trimmed a little here and there with a dremel cut off tool and it didnt take long, and the install looked professional. also you can get a cold air intake from ebay, which can start at 50 or 60 bucks for the cheaper replica versions of aem and injen, but still work just as good. the sound of the intake sucking up air is tight too
If you take it to the dealer with an aftermarket intake, it WILL void at least part of your warranty. You can get around this by just putting back your stock intake to get warranty work done.
make sure NOTHING AT ALL is touching the intake tube including the wheel well plastics and surrounding metals. IF IT DOES, IT WILL WEAR A HOLE IN YOUR INTAKE TUBE! CHECK YOUR INTAKE TUBING TODAY FOR RUBBING.
um no its not the same thing.. there is a difference between manual and auto intakes... thats why they sell them as so. and a 50-60 dollar intake on ebay is not going to work just the same. why else would people be spending 220 bucks on an intake when an ebay one can do the same.
GT300 body kit on, getting fitted, doing install myself. pics comin as soon as my kit is here and painted...
As far as e-bay knock-offs vs. AEM or Injen: it's like anything - to some extent you are paying for the brand name. However, there IS a reason you see AEM and Injen decals on high performance rides. They are tested and KNOWN to be the real deal. The e-bay stuff is probably better than stock but using inferior materials to the more reputable manufacturers. Go Injen.
i have the ebay intake, so far so good actually. juss you gotta watch out for the filter, it has been known to suck up more than juss air. clean ur filter every now and then say like 3k clix and you should be good. if not, my dealership told me that they've had cars come in with all sorts of intake (AEM, Injen, you name it) and they found like lots of gunk in ur engine.
also bout the warranty, mine did not get voided...but this is different for all dealership i believe. so juss check your dealership for further information.
well no, this goes out to all intakes rite...and i believe it b/c the only reason ur gettin more horses is because ur sucking up more air. the only way to suck up more air is if you have a large surface area for ur filter, or the filter has larger openings.
Isn't there some kind of law that states a cars warranty cannot be void just because of aftermarket parts unless its those parts that caused the problem

it is true that they can't void your warranty unless your mods caused a problem.. however, oftentimes an engine problem diagnosis is very subjective. The mechanic can very easily say that something you've done caused the problem.. it's hard to prove that's not the case. All I'm saying is, know what you're getting into before you do it.
